Hi there!
When one of our teachers here at Helsinki University asked us to write down three words that would define our identity for a class, my words were: Swedish-speaking Finn, Student and Single (that is, "currently not seeing anybody" ;-))
We Swedish-speaking Finns are a minority of about 5 % of the Finnish population, and as with any minority, one's identity tends to be shaped a lot by one's relationship to the minority culture, as well as to that of the majority.
I say "Student" in both a very tangible, real sense as I study litterature (especially nordic and Swedish-Finnish), as well as in the larger sense that I enjoy the active, relatively carefree lifestyle coupled by the amazing fun it can be to learn something new or to challenge one's intellect.
Single - well, I was a bit down when I wrote the "identity words", maybe now it wouldn't make the top three, although the fact still stands. Still, it does make for a difference in the life I lead. I go out a lot with friends, and from time to time I enjoy doing things by my self, in my own way.
Well, that's me... or at least a part of me.
Oh yeah, I probably won't have that much time to actively participate in making the guide, although I might write an article or two at some time. See you around!
