This will seem quite pathetic, butt I'm gonna anyway...
Just had a haircut.
I felt like crying as I left the place where they stole my hair.
Before: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1205/852179660_94ac197151.jpg
I took a picture of what I wanted with me on my phone. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1307/852209260_0b38bdd6e7_o.jpg
I had said when I booked that wanted to go violet too.
The guy wouldn't bleach and dye my hair. Gave me a long talk on the perils of doing such with skin like mine and the time and expense etc...
OK, no big deal.
I ask myself if I just have my hair tidied up a bit or still get the cut I've been thinking I'd like for a good while.
I had my doubts, I really liked my hair as it was... but I dismissed my doubts as me being stupid and boring and took the risk.
But, it seems I should have gone to Boots and got the picture printed and blown up along with lots of others from different angles.
Because what I left with was far from what I had asked for. At least I didn't think it was what I had shown him or been asking for, but the guy was of a different opinion.
At the very least what I got was neither what I wanted or hoped for.
I felt so ashamed as I walked home wearing the hair as he had cut, moused and blowned it.
I've tried with some gel and messing about with it, but this is really the least awful I've managed so far: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1205/852179660_94ac197151.jpg
Washing all the product out and letting it be.
It doesn't look so bad as what I left Sweeney Todd's with but I won't be happy with it until it's had six or eight months to grow back. I have Emilie Autumn tomorrow night, the Rankin event next week and a trip to Michigan in October. Hopefully by October I have something that I'm not quite so ashamed of, but it won't be something I'll feel good about.
I look even fatter with it how it is now

Any advice or opinion on how I retrieve something from this would be great.

Grit your teeth and have it grow again.
I have no idea about gel and spray etc, never used it myslef.

Not sure if I should make the top shorter so there less of a contrast between it and the back and side. or if I should shave the back and side down and make the bit at the middle top narrower. Or as you say leave it for while and then tidy it and wait some more for it to grow out.
If anyone has any more optimistic suggestions I'm open to them.

I've had baseball cap for six years and I've probably only worn it 6 times. It may get some use, but baseball caps have never been "me".
It looks a bit different now it's properly dry.
The cut may have worked for Hilary Swank in 'Boys Don't Cry' but...
No-one has died, I know, but...

That's where you went and met some famous person I don't recall the name of, isn't it?

For what it's worth, the current 'do' doesn't look too bad atall, from where I'm sitting, Az... but then, it's not my hair, and I haven't got to walk around with it. There are fewer irksome things than getting a haircut you're not comfortable with, I know.
On the plus side, *you haven't got to look at it... if you see what I mean. Only when you look in the mirror.
The chap in the photo of the style you originally wanted has a lot of theatrical sort of make up on - which enhances the style; if he didn't have the liner/slap on, he'd look merely mediocre, generally speaking; what I'm trying to say is he(or whoever grooms him) has gone for a deliberate look, which involves accessorising.
You can now tell me he's someone terribly famous who I ought to recognise, if you like. He wouldn't be the first famous person I haven't recognised; ask Yehudi Menuhin... or Tom Conte.
Or Angharrad Rees, Christopher Casenove, Frank Carson or Robert Hardy Robert Hardy was particually peeved I didn't immediately recognise him, but as I remarked, I didn't expect him to be quite so rude and arrogant.
Anyway, I digress; Whilst you're growing your hair back to it's former glory, have you considered make up to draw attention away from the hair? I'm not sure if it'd fit into your lifestyle, but it may be worth a bit of consideration perhaps? I hope I haven't suggested anything offensive to you, but personally, I reckon a bloke can look pretty cool with a bit of discreet, stylish makeup, same as a lass can.
Failing that, find a fun hat, or bandana, or even a syrup (one of my friends resorted to one of them after a particually disasterous dying foray and very neat it looked, too) for the interim.
And don't wory - it'll grow and in a couple of weeks you'll wonder why you were so upset

Yeah, i would go for "bandana" for now & let it grow out a bit. It's summer, hair grows more quickly assuming you actually get a bit of sunshine!
Maybe you could think about other facial hair stuff, since you've been landed with a new look anyway, good time to experiment!
I know how it feels, i tend to hack great chunks out of mine when i am in a vile temper & then think "oh gawd, what the hell did i do?"

I deleted the other "after" picture, 'cause I didn't much care for it it, here is a replacement: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1237/861448481_59ceb501ce.jpg
I don't think bandanas are for me. Make-up I may try upon firstly loosing a heck of a lot of weight and two having a "friend" to give some trusted guidance.
I don't exactly have face one would want to draw attention to, maybe that's why I prefer the longer hair it's something to hide inside.
And to be blunt I sweat like really big fat bloke.
I can't imagine what you think you may have said that would be offensive...
I have a top hat that I cover up in when the weather is less humid, i.e. January.
The band in the picture are Blue October and the guy with hair is Justin Furstenfeld.

It's a lovely pic and a lovely face and you have really large eyes. I don't think there's any need to hide your face at all.

Tabitca Posted Jul 22, 2007
I think you look great! I can see your face now I certainly would be proud to be seen with you....we always feel our hair is terrible when we first get it cut...then it grows a bit and we get used to it. I have mine as short as possible without looking shaved because it's less bother. In a few days you will get used to seeing yourself with the shorter hair and be happier about it.

>>Make-up I may try upon firstly loosing a heck of a lot of weight and two having a "friend" to give some trusted guidance<<
I can agree with half of that - the bit about a trusted friend giving guidence - that's sensible, especially if you're not too confident with the slap.
As for the bit about losing weight.... can I let you in on a bit of a secret, here? A heck of a lot of women (and probably men) utilise make up to give the impression of a thinner face. The thing about make up is that you can hide behind it, and it shouldn't draw attention to one's face, more draw attention to an area you're happy with - ie, eyes, or mouth, or whatever.
You don't have to be thin to wear make up... honest!
On the rare occasions I do wear it I draw myself in a nice pair of cheek bones and vamp the eyes up, which takes the attention away from the rather strong jaw line I have
Mind you, I sweat like a bull as well, and it makes my eyes itch and I end up looking like Hetty the Happy within 5 minutes.... I know how to put it on, though! My face doesn't enjoy wearing it much, thats all.
I was a bit concerned about mentioning make up to a bloke who is under 30,(which I assume you are) and one I don't know particually well; some blokes would have taken it as a dig at their masculinity/sexuality/Self, (my younger son nearly hit the roof when I suggested it to him, but then he wasn't as in touch with himself as my older son, who just laughed a bit and said "Mum, make up just isn't me, really)
I'm ever so glad you didn't get the hump with the idea

I tend to see my eyes being piggy little things so I'm confused by comment about them being big, I think it's just the angle and the stance struck is misleading.
I forgot to address the point about experimenting with facial hair...
My beard hasn't changed much in the last 10 years. It's hard to contemplate doing much that is different with it. Do you have imagine anything in particular when made the suggestion?
Certainly I'm getting more used to it with time. What I walked home with on my head and washed out at the first chance was much worse than anything I've pictured here.

I don't think any of us see ourselves the way others might see us, frankly. I look at your photo and see a rather pleasant, regular featured young man who appears a bit shy.
I don't say I'm right, but thats what I see But several other people have been both complimentory and positive, here, so I appear to be in the majority.
*You look at your picture, and possibly see someone totally different. Why that should be is all down to personal perspective; after all, it's the same image everyone sees, isn't it?
I've finally learnt to put photoes up on a web site, and there's a batch from my jaunt to Cyprus; if you're interested, I'll let you have the Url(?) (not on this thread, obviously, I don't want to detract from the original subject)so you can see who you're talking to.
I'd lay money on your perception of my appearance and my own perception of the same images are absolutely poles apart!

I don't really have a lot of people around me that I'd be that happy bunging some make-up on my face. And the only thing I like about my face is the colour of my eyes. But I take your well made point about not having to be slender to wear make-up. I just don't think I personally would feel so great wearing it at my current state of tire advertising bloatedness.
And the sweating.
Do you think I give myself a new nose with make-up?
I'm 25 next month. Getting too close to 30 for my liking.
No, I've never been the kind of person who would get the hump at such a suggestion. More inclined to get the hump at the suggestion I would be that kind of person made by someone I figured should know me better.
Or with someone else silly enough to take it as did at there sexuality or butchness.
"I don't think any of us see ourselves the way others might see us, frankly."
Another good point.
"I look at your photo and see a rather pleasant, regular featured young man who appears a bit shy."
Well I can agree with you on the shyness front.
"*You look at your picture, and possibly see someone totally different. Why that should be is all down to personal perspective; after all, it's the same image everyone sees, isn't it?"
Well I could put one up that is less flattering, and list my faults, but I won't.
"I've finally learnt to put photoes up on a web site, and there's a batch from my jaunt to Cyprus; if you're interested, I'll let you have the Url(?) (not on this thread, obviously, I don't want to detract from the original subject)so you can see who you're talking to."
That's good. I'd be happy to see where you've been. It's no detraction from the journal, but if you're happier to share it over in the other thread that's fine.
"I'd lay money on your perception of my appearance and my own perception of the same images are absolutely poles apart!"
Quite possibly.
