And if you get thick glasses with a nose attached, they will never recognise you, so they won't be able to say that you aren';t who you say you are.

So yeah, I've slpet too late these past two days. I shall try again tomorrow. It'll probably be quite busy, but the sooner I sign up the better and it has been far too long since I've been to the cinny.

You could pick up one of their 'what's on' booklets while you're at it, since us lot on here aren't so hot on the old suggestions.

'Good Night And Good Luck' is a film that has attracted some attention, one I hope to see.

I'm waiting for 'Mirrormask' to hit DVD as I don't think it was out for long. The script I read was OK, great or inspired. The artwork for the film is suitably beatiful as you'd expect of Dave McKean. Maybe a bigger budget would have lead to a more daring scrpt.
Still i wanna see and judge it for myself.

You read the script of it? How did you get hold of that?

The script with the storyboard sketches were published about a year ago, long before the film came out, in the hope I suspect that lots of loyal Gaiman fans would pick the book up and encourage their friends to see the film it's opening week at the cinny whe came out. I got hold of a copy by suggesting the library buy one and let me rent it. One of the few times they've bought anything I suggested... 'too obscure/not popular enough' but that tends to be music or film. A request for Neil Gaiman famous author publishing isn't gonna get turned down. Although someone somewhere in Sussex Library service wandered off with the first batch that they bought.

I did sign-up with my local cinny today though after finally getting up at a more or less reasonable time. Saw 'Good Night and Good Luck', enjoyable, well performed and well directed, well written. In a way it's classic American faire, a few good men stand-up to be counted against the tyrany of their time.

Hmm. That last post sounded really b!tchy. smiley - erm

On the subject of films and b!tchyness - I'm just gonna launch off into a rant here...

I just watch "The Warriors Ultimate Director's Cut". 'Ultimate Director's ****-up' morelike! Why? Oh why?! Just... Why?!! Why go an mess around with a film by adding these really annoying, suspension of disbelief destroying and stylisticly inappropriate comicbook bookends to the end and begining of half the scenes and this piss-poor intro to the film talking about greeks in persia with pictures of roman legionaries on the screen?!

I despair!smiley - steam

Not worth going to see, then? Shame. I enjyed the original.

(And you sounded smiley - tongueincheek to me, not bitchy. But, hell, what's wrong with a good bitchin' from time to time?)

Was a DVD I bought.
Haven't watched the featurettes, but doubt they'll compensate for the for the those awful bits of comic cgi between scenes, they are on the screen for seconds and there's only maybe 7 of them but they detract from the film in a huge way. So if you love The Warriors stick with the orginal not this unholy mess created by director interference in a classic that should have remained the property of it's cult followers.
And like I say the intro voiced by the director at the begining pretencious locks of bol

I saw The Dark yesterday, which pretty good I thought. It featured Hell's Sheep and a fair amount of Welsh.smiley - laugh
I thought rather sucessfully incorporated a number of different themes that I think are important to a good modern horror film and was really pleased when the twist I was hoping for but wasn't fully expecting was presented after a well timed period of leaving you hanging.

Ice Age the Meltdaown is another great kids movie that I think was really made for grown-up that just want to forget they're grown up and watch a one big long cartoon like used to.

Rent I thought started well but just became too tedious for me. The fact that the cinny was slow to deal with a speaker problem that made us miss about ten ot 15 minute of song and dialogue also contributed to walking out.

And Ant and Dec's Alien Autopsy was a good laugh well worth having for anyone remembers the Fortean fad and UFO conspiracy madness of the 90's and anyone with a sense humour - good comic performance turned in by all really.

I'm gonna have to watch The Dark again. My expectations for the film were so low and I was distracted by the twitten behind me's feet sticking out into the corner of vision.
I'm wondering if I'm seeing something in the film that isn't there or that the people that put the film down are missing some obvious cues.

It certainly sounds intriguing, from what you've said. Who's in it? Anyone I'd have heard of?

Well it's directed by John Fawcett of 'Ginger Snaps' fame and features Sean Bean of 'Sharpe' fame.
Well I did say before about it using a number of themes from modern horror - as used by the Japanese 'new wave' Horror. That said it's a not terribly terrifying film. I guess for alot of people that's huge flaw. I liked the psychology of the film or more specificly the disturbing psychology of the Sarah character and Ebrill too. I liked the way it didn't fall into cliches and I liked the 'twist' at the end which made sense to me given how I was interpreting those cues and my notions that it makes a horror/thriller stronger when it's revealed that the rules that the characters think are going to get them outta jail free don't actually apply... I thought overall the film redeemed itself in a way that a central character ultimately couldn't.
