Quick Question
Kat - From H2G2 Started conversation Aug 2, 2004
Thought I would ask you seeing as I know you're online and you usually know this sort of thing...
If this guy is following someone round h2g2 and leaving their email address around and butting into things completely irrelevantly it counts as harassment right? So if I reported them two days ago how long do you think it would take for someone to do something?
Thank you
Quick Question
Stealth "Jack" Azathoth Posted Aug 2, 2004
I my opinion it would certainly count as harassment, yes. As you probably know we only have 3 italics and they get alot of e mail and so can miss thing as they sift through it all after the weekend. The moderators are about all the time so the best thing to do is yikes every post he makes that you consider to be harassing, tell the moderators in each yikesing that it isn't a single post but part of a persistent campaign and any other relevant information, have window/tab open on the <./>HouseRules</.> page and basically cite anything from there that you thinks applies.
Plus tell me the person's U-number so I can notify the rest of the ACEs and the Italics, through ACEforum, so that we [ACEs] can keep an eye on him for any other abhorrent behaviour and so that the Italics *may* get to dealing with it sooner.
Hope that helps...

thank you. He's persuing my head of department for the german section of The Language Thing and is annoying me. She doesn't seem too perturbed but I dont like him butting in! and all in capitals too!! Argh!
Quick Question
Stealth "Jack" Azathoth Posted Aug 2, 2004
OK, I'll have to confer with the other ACEs and Italics to see how/if this changes things... I would say that as he isn't harassing you directly then you may be better off focusing compliants to moderators about the posts as spam and flooding rather than harassment, but do still include your opnion that it is harassment as I laid out before.

Complaint about Post 5643184
This person follows "katkodl" U574007 around and posts on any thread
that she's participating in. He argues with other posters, tries to get
them to email him and talks complete irrelevant nonsense. I have tried
to tell him to lay off but to no avail.
not very articulate but I was in a strange mood. Does that sound acceptable?
Quick Question
Stealth "Jack" Azathoth Posted Aug 2, 2004
It could be... I find it best to use the specific terms that are in the house rules. Argueing = Trolling and Being mean spirited, Following someone and tries to get people to e mail him = harassing behaviour... You get the picture? Make clear that if something offends you you staet that you find it offensive...

SNARL!
"I feel that this decision does not take into account other posts by the user. The user spams and harasses. Whilst the post itself does not contravene with the rules I feel that the users general behavior does."
Quick Question

Um now the mods have threatened to put us all under pre-mod!
Quick Question
Stealth "Jack" Azathoth Posted Aug 5, 2004
Strange.
I'm going to be away for a while.
I'll see what I can do when I get back.
Do you know Mort? She isn't an ACE anymore but the Mods like her, get her to see what she thinks of the situation.
Quick Question
Kat - From H2G2 Posted Aug 5, 2004
Oh sorry I forgot to update you.
The email had been sent to the wrong person and they said they would keep an eye on them and apologised.
are you okay? where are you going?
Quick Question
Stealth "Jack" Azathoth Posted Aug 5, 2004
I'm going to a Sproutlore convention is Brentford, Middlesex. [Tis one of London’s Suburbs, and features heavily in Robert’s books. I'll be there for the next 3 days and I'll likely be spending some time in Hayward’s Heath when I get back.
I'm not going into hospital or anything, though given how crap I've been feeling the only thing that has kept from letting on just bad I've been feeling is not wanting to put back in the Villa and miss this event, I intend to drink large and talk toot and generally have damn fine time! Plus I get to have my books signed by Robert himself.
That's good news on the mod front... I've had some mods make some pretty incomprehensible decisions before but that one had me drop jawed.

Oh good I thought you were going in again! You had me worried there!
What books does this guy write? what sort of thing?
Quick Question
Stealth "Jack" Azathoth Posted Aug 5, 2004
A2120617 There's some info on my Rankin fan club page. But to summarise, he writes what he calls 'Far Fetched Fiction'. Which is really comedy sci fi fantansy stuff.
Quick Question
Kat - From H2G2 Posted Aug 5, 2004
Oh i remember!!! I think Ive read some of his stuff. Have you enjoyed it more than Pratchett?
Quick Question
Stealth "Jack" Azathoth Posted Aug 5, 2004
Yes. Only felt inclined to read an entire Pratchett once, and that was because 'Good Omens' was mainly the work of Niel Gaiman.
Also, everyone I know that's had anything to do with Pratchett says he's a complete Bast!
Quick Question
Kat - From H2G2 Posted Aug 5, 2004
Oh i can QUITE easily believe that! But surely does that have to have an impact on reading the books? Have you tried any of the Wheel of Time series?
Quick Question
Stealth "Jack" Azathoth Posted Aug 5, 2004
Not to my knownledge, it does have an impact of my choosing not read his books as one of the poeple his was a bast too was Robert Rankin himself... I have similar tastes to other Rankin fans and not many of them have anything good say about most of Pratchett books and since there are a great many other books I want to read Pratchett just isn't apriority... Also, I have 'converted' people from Pratchett and they are all much happier now they are rankin fans.
I really enjoyed 'Good Omens' but it was the Gaiman influence that made me like it I'm sure.
I haven't liked the Tom Holt I've read either... But I plan to give him a third chance, maybe one day I'll give Pratchett another chance, but it won't be anytime soon... so many other great books to read.
Quick Question
Kat - From H2G2 Posted Aug 5, 2004
Ah go have a look at them if you can.
They're by Robert Jordan, and the first one is called The Eye Of The World.
