new digs!
Posted Mar 3, 2004
i've just moved to my new digs (i was thrown out of college because the national service program is using all the rc's for the second phase of training). it's at a '5-star' student hostel just off the campus. a deluxe twin room (for two people), *much* bigger than a standard room (i'm not sure about the measurements, but you can lay about 5-6 single beds side-by-side along one wall - and the room is square. well, sort of - the bathroom is in it). fully furnished (beds, wardrobes, book racks, luggage compartment and computer tables) and comes with an attached bathroom. comes with air-conditioning, water heater, telephone and broadband internet connection. approx US$115 (and no, i don't have to pay electricity or water bills; because it's 10 mins from my faculty, i don't have to fork out any transportation money either). free laundry service 4 times a week (7 kg per load), access to the gym, recreation and reading rooms. convenience store and food court on the ground floor. utter luxury.

'persada kreatura' - what the heck?
Posted Feb 13, 2004
we have *another* concert this weekend! right in the middle of the exam season! (of course, i no longer have to sit for written exams, but the undergrads still do) and... get this... on *valentine's day*! needless to say, almost everybody's plans have been shot to kingdom come . the only good thing about it is that it's all ensemble work, which is a great deal easier than having to play orchestral pieces. and... because it features so many groups, i only get to play one piece - a fanfare and chorale for three trombones, euphonium, b-flat bass and piano. of course, the *bad* news is that i have a grand total of three big, harrowing (for me), solo bits..... wish me luck, and hope that i don't play any bad notes, because i don't particularly like the idea of having
hurled at me.

breaking in and entering
Posted Jan 12, 2004
here are my accomplishments for this year so far: breaking in and entering somebody's house in broad daylight! with a police car patrolling the area! and what's more, it was my supervisor's house!
i'm not kidding! although my intentions were a great deal more honourable than burglary... we had a farewell party for a labmate at my supervisor's house last friday. a bunch of us went home with her just before 5 o'clock to set things up... only to have her announce in horror as we pulled up at her gate that she had neither gate remote control nor house keys on her! so jimmy was sent over the gate to unlock the garbage gate from inside. ... and disappeared without a trace behind the house. so alex went after him... and did a similar disappearing act. so i went over the fence in hot pursuit, and got the gate opened.
of course, once we were in, there was the matter of getting *into* the house. all of the doors and windows were locked, except for the french windows at the back of the house, but there was a sliding grille door blocking the way in. we had absolutely no lock-picking tools of any sort.... and then yours truly had the brilliant idea of taking down the grille panel with the screwdriver set from jimmy's car. (er, yeah, we actually took down the thing, and my supervisor slipped into the kitchen to get the keys)
our supervisor was telling the second convoy about an hour later about how alex and i dismantled her door and broke into her house... we told her that should her house be broken into sometime in the future, IT'S NOT US!
