Has anyone else noticed that on some monitors their work looks just fine and on others it looks like blotches of black ink?

It is probably the resolution on the monitor.
I know that my old monitor, everything looked black so I lightene everything up. I would check the images at work, and they would be way too light. On my "new" monitor, they are much lighter, but still a little darker than on my office computer. I want to get myself a NEW monitor (as in brand new, not second-hand new) so I might have the benefit of seeing things as they are intended to be seen.
At least I don't have to whack my home monitor when the color suddenly shifts.

My notebook shows everything just nicely but my desktop looks like crap.
Makes me wonder if any of us are seeing the pieces correctly.

Just for fun I'm keeping track of the progress of a piece at http://public.fotki.com/anhaga/apelles/
Hopefully the pictures don't just look like blotches of black on your monitors.

A few days ago, this painting of mine was severely damaged by my own mistake.
I had bought a black, pre-fabricated passe-partout and I assumed it was destined for A4-formats.
Yes, it wás, and my painting was also máde at A4 paper.
Bút I had forgotten, that in highth/loweth I had painted the full 100 % space.
I did have special care for the top of the painting.
A day later, I discovered, that the "bottom" was "changed".
I did not really think it all over, or had a real look behind the passe-partout and so I painted some more black Acrylic in the right corner, down.
Anóther day later, I discovered, that the passe partout had hidden three cm. from the original bottom and that the original was far more dynamic then the "new one".
It could not be repared.
At the internet I looked for info. about professional printing services, because the original was now only digital and could at least be printed.
A lady mailed me, that she had seen my painting and she herself had printed it and hung it in her room.
She wrote me, that she would be "honoured" with printing it at her sophisticated hardware, including a nice and fitting passe-partout ánd a silver-like phrame with glass ánd to bring it to me in my home.
And there she was, today, with her husband, who also makes paintings.
And there we were, in my room, talking about my other paintings.
Later on we walked to the corner of my street to eat Italian
Icecreme and there they told theír story.
That they had come to know each other 1 1/2 years ago at the internet, and that they both broke up their marriages to be able to love each other and share their lives together. (and they both seem to me very well-balanced peoples).
We talked about knowing one's own passions and how important it is to live that out. How important it is to share that with others and so pass on the torch of passion.
So this was a rich day in the life of theirs and mine.
The fire of passion, shared with those who live their own passion(s).
Passing on the torch of fire.
That - to me - makes life meanigful.
Greetings from Amsterdam

I posted photos of one of the Easter eggs I made last night: http://public.fotki.com/Mudhooks/my_stuff/artistic_stuff/easter_egg/161_61041.html
My Fotki site made the list of "most visited Fotki pages" today (I did some time back, as well). I don't know to what I should attribute the honor, but I stand at 478 visitors and 1855 hits (images viewed)!

To give the Gallery a boost, I'd like to sugges, that persons who put their creative products there álso make a link in their personal
Entry.
I'm tired, right now. Lack of sleep.
But I think you still do understand my suggestion.

Hello Everybody!
Alfredo, yes, I will put up a link on my Uspace! I don't know if it will help much ... I don't suspect my page gets a lot of traffic!

Although I'm not in the art gallery (yet?) I have put a link to it on my PS, as well as one to the photo gallery. Good idea, Alfredo!

It occurred to me that people looking at the gallery might not know how to go about joining in so I have also put a link to the first page of this thread, which tells people how they can submit their stuff.
