Thank you. Who knows, maybe when it all starts flooding back (heh yeah right...) I'll be able to converse fully in german! Or maybe that's a bit ambitious....
Guten Tag :)
Wulfric Posted Mar 17, 2003
Who knows indeed!
It's a lovely day today - sun shining, birds singing, me stuck in an office.
Some more phrases:

traurig, daß Sie eine Zugstation waren.
A few more phrases there. Some are nonsense admittedly but they do show how the sentence structure works.
I will do more when I can.
As they say - "later".
Guten Tag :)
Siren Of The Black Posted Mar 19, 2003
I have no idea what that is in german!
That was very good for sentence structure, thank you
Wie gehts sie heute?

Guten Tag :)
Wulfric Posted Mar 19, 2003
Hallo,
Ich bin gut heute, danke. Wie geht es Ihnen? (How are you?)
Vegetarian in German is Vegetarier.
It is a wonderful Spring day. I wish I was at home rather than in the office.

Also ich muss zu hause gehen.
Tchuss...
I have no idea whether or not that makes sense....
Guten Tag :)
Wulfric Posted Mar 20, 2003
Yes it makes sense
No time now to do anymore phrases but I'll pop some more on tomorrow.
PS. It's Tschüss (or Tschuess).
Guten Tag :)
Siren Of The Black Posted Mar 21, 2003
Ok whoops... That's one of me problems, I can quite often remember the words, but not how to spell them and my computer doesn't seem to have any cpacity for inserting correct umlauts (sp?)
I can't remember what work is in german... As in the essay type work...
Ich studiert chemi. Would that be I study chemistry?
Hope you are well and happy
Guten Tag :)
Wulfric Posted Mar 21, 2003
Ja bin ich wohl und glücklich.
Ich hoffe, daß Sie außerdem sind. (I hope you are as well.
Ich studiere Chemie. (I study chemistry).
I expect you already know this, but if you can't do umlauts, then you can write things this way: Fröse = Froese.

Is that the exit? Ist der der Ausgang?
I dream in colour. Ich träume in der Farbe.
Life copies art. Das Leben kopiert kunst.

alles Wissens.

Have you seen my dog? Haben Sie meinen Hund gesehen?
A few more phrases to get your teeth into! Since I can only do this at work and not at home I shan't be able to do anymore until Monday . Still, never mind.
Tschüss
Guten Tag :)
Wulfric Posted Mar 21, 2003
Oh yes! If you use windows you can get umlauts the following way:
ä = press alt+0228 (on the little numeric keypad on the righthand side of the keyboard).
ë = alt+0235
ï = alt+0239
ö = alt+0246
ü = alt+0252
keeping alt pressed down whilst typing the number.
Guten Tag :)
Siren Of The Black Posted Mar 21, 2003
Guten Tag :)
Wulfric Posted Mar 21, 2003
Hello Siren,
A few corrections!
Weekend is Wochenende. Cloudy is bewölkt.
(I hope you have a nice and relaxing weekend too.)
Guten Tag :)
Wulfric Posted Mar 21, 2003
Don't worry about spelling mistakes - after all these years of writing German I still make loads of mistakes - spelling and grammatical!
Mit Zeit verbessern Sie. (With time you will improve)
Even if it's not sunny I shall still take it easy . I'm hoping that this will be our first free weekend without any visits/shopping/needing to go anywhere. Vermutlich seien Sie nicht wie das obgleich! (Probably won't be like that though.)
Wulfric
Guten Tag :)
Siren Of The Black Posted Mar 21, 2003
Hmmm, I'm sure if die sonne scheint, keine kaufe mussen sie machen.
I couldn't figure out how to try and say, if it's sunny I'm sure you could easily use persuasive techniques to stay out in the garden / down the beach / park lounging in the sun with a G+T / beer and listen to the radio or read
Better get some work done.
Have a great weekend.
Siren
(in the sun )
Guten Tag :)
Wulfric Posted Mar 24, 2003

(We went to Cambridge. Found a nice little pub by the river and drank beer. Then we went shopping.)
Später...
(More later...)
Wulfric
Guten Tag :)
Siren Of The Black Posted Mar 24, 2003
Halo,
Ja meine wochenende war gut danke. Ich habe "Signs" und "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" ge-watched....
Sounds like you had a great weekend. I was going to go to St.Fagans, I don't know if you've heard of it, it's an open air museum of welsh life. The people who run if have collected old ruins of houses from all over wales at different times and reconstructed them in the museum. It covers acres and is very pretty. (schön?)
Wie gehen sie am morgen?
Guten Tag :)
Wulfric Posted Mar 24, 2003
Hallo.
A few tips: watched is fernsehen (on TV that it.)
I haven't heard of St.Fagans, I'm afraid. But it sounds like an interesting place. I take it you didn't go? (I WAS going to go...).
I couldn't make out you last sentence.
Wie gehen sie am morgen? translates as "How do they go to tomorrow?"
Could you clarify, please?
Guten Tag :)
Siren Of The Black Posted Mar 24, 2003
No I didn't get to go, unfortunately.... Just too plain lazy nevermind...
My last sentence was me not concentrating, it's still too early for me... Ugh.
I was trying to say how are you this morning? But my gehts turned into a gehen for some bizarre reason... I just wasn't paying attention. OOoopsie... Heh
I feel so stooopid...
Key: Complain about this post
