Time to ready the nesting boxes!

We've got goldfinches in our garden,this year, for the first time!

If you want goldfinches, you should put out thistle seeds. They'll sit there for hours gorging themselves.

Yes, we've noticed.... and we've had to move the feeders into the tree, making a mess of the lawn!

But they are soooooooooooo pretty!

Do you get groups of them? When our goldfinches had a couple of chicks, the parents occupied both perches of the feeder for hours while the fledglings looked on wistfully. You can get feeders with lots of perches if you want to attract more birds.

We get eight or more at a time and they won't let others on that feeder.

The green finches eat the sunflower seed hearts and the sparrows, starling and anything else, eat off the floor.

That's a wonderful sight.
