How can people be so pathetic?
Vicki Virago - Proud Mother Started conversation Mar 27, 2006
"People who "attempt suicide" (i.e. do something stupid that doesn't kill them) generally fall into two categories: people who really did want to die, but weren't smart enough to think of a reliable method (e.g. people who jump from second storey windows and end up breaking their back/legs/whatever but surviving, people who slit their wrists and then telephone a friend/ambulance/Samaritans, people who take an overdose of a drug that will take days to kill them), and people who had no intention whatever of dying but simply couldn't think of any other way of getting another human being to pay them the kind of attention they want. The latter is commonly referred to as a "cry for help", and is a really deeply selfish act, far more so than a successful suicide is. Personally I'd like to live in a society where there IS capital punishment, but the only crime it's applied to is threatening or attempting suicide."
The above is a posting made by a researcher in another conversation on hootoo.
Being someone who attempted suicide because of mental ill health, I found this very, very hard to deal with.

It's probably as well i have'nt seen the original posting or thread, my response would not be pleasant to whoever it was that wrote such nonesense.Whoever it was needs to post an apology and be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.
I sincerely hope it's nobody I know. To anybody else who may have seen or read the original take no notice of the content, whoever wrote it obviously has no idea what he/she is on about and has just shown to all his/her ignorance on a very serious topic.

Please don't take one person's views to heart. I suspect he has been deeply hurt by such an episode in the past and harbours deep resentment.
He has issues he needs to address. Perhaps in a few days, when he reads his comments and comes to understand the hurt he is causing, he will regret his outburst. I doubt if he will acknowledge this though.

But you are not alone. If you feel you want to talk to someone, a stranger, please feel free to drop in on my PS

How can I calm down after what he said? Thats one of the things with abuse and depression, comments like that hurt a lot, I cried, I was so angry and now I am meant to just calm down? If only I knew how? I shall take it elsewhere and not muck up this space anymore.

The person who wrote this needs not a kick up the backside but about 10 minutes of *manic depression or bi-polar depression" and as a Bi-polar myself and know what's what about depression *IT* now, i have never wished it apon anyone, but this...... need i say more!
If anyone wants to know about the thing called *depression* all you have to do is ask me "the rev jack"... and i'll advise you to wear a hard hat and carry a towel while you investigate yourself! Most people don't ask cus there scared, with good reason too!

I guess I should try to explain, Lil when you tell me to calm down it triggers stuff for me.
I know you are a wonderful person and knowing you are there looking out for VV and so many others is fantastic to know. I know you would never hurt anyone and I know you would not hurt me.
I can't explain it, its not logical, but it triggers me and makes me feel so angry. My Dad has tried to convince me to calm down to as he believes what happened was insignificant, maybe that explains it all.
