After reading the blog, I have this bit of info for you
Believe it or not being able to swim is not a nessecity to join the navy I had a mate who was a submariner and he couldn't swim a stroke as long as you could pass the escape tank you could join a submarine

I don't think they can and trust me you don't want to from the stories my mate Taff told me, imagine a hundred or so men in a tin can sleeping 2 to a bed in shifts, the smell of diesel and unwashed bodies
Not my idea of fun

If you become a telephone person I hope you have thick skin, I never let them get any further than "I'm calling from....." before I put the phone down, the best retort I came up with was when some bloke asked to speak to Mr Wheatley (My dad) to which I replied "He's Dead", which is true, all I got from the other end was "Oh...........erm...........ah.........(click)" obviously the manual didn't tell them how to deal with that responce

Well let’s see.
Today I phoned both suspects…
First on my hit list was Napier University
After taking so long to answer the phone at 11am there chances looked slim from the start
They obviously had trouble understanding the native language, as I had to say hello at least three times.
I was informed after they left me on hold for ten minutes; that I shall be called for an interview in October for there course starting in February…
Next up was the MOD, more specifically her majesties royal navy.
They in stark contrast to Napier uni answered almost as soon as I had finished the number. When I got the normal automated answer “your call will be recorded for training reasons.” Then I was answered by a human, always nice I think. Where upon telling them my reference number from my previous disturbance into their sleepy sanctum so that they could dig out my record from their database, I informed them of my willingness to take up a career in the navy. All right so I said, “hello I am Anthea Muldoon and I would like to join the navy” but there’s no point in small talk. And they are now sending me another envelope full of information (to go with the others, so that means I will probably have three copies of most of there booklets) and I now have an interview in Glasgow Queen Street, on Wednesday the 25th of this month,
It occurs to me that that’s next week… I then have to tell them about my family, education, why I want to join the navy, and take the written tests. Could be worse.
We shall see what happens after that, but I don’t want to be waiting around till February to get on with the rest of my life. So lets start it here. If that means the navy…
Well they offer a better rate of pay than the NHS, and accommodation… and the pension scheme doesn’t look too bad… of course if I ever marry my spouse and I could choose to relocate anywhere in the world once my service was finished, or so it says in the booklets that I already have. But then again it’s a little early to be thinking of that I think. (Or at least that’s what I am told, and this by a man who doesn’t know where he wants to go in the morning… or indeed whither he should get up.) But it’s good to know these things. So I am waiting for the postman yet again. Oh and of course getting fitter for when I hopefully will be able to sit (run, jog, squat…) through the health test. Sound like fun
Then well… I can’t remember what’s meant to come after that, but there’s no point worrying over it yet. First I need to get past stage one…
*Takes a deep breath*
well I think that’s enough for now.
Till I need to update you all again
