My sister once asked: if (the christian) god was, and is, the god of everyone, how come he lead the isralites against the egyptians? cos surely if he's the god of everyone he's the god of the egyptians too? The RE teacher (who is very christian) kept on saying 'yea, but he was *their* god', meaning the isralites... RE teachers who have strong religious feelings themselves tend to be a bit useless, in my opinion!

Yeah.
Do you also find that the more christian the student is, the more likely they are to inexplicably get higher marks in their coursework?
I started a huge argument once in RE class. I said that there was no way a good god would allow anyone to go to hell.

I *always* started huge arguments in RE class, not necessarily cos I disagreed, but cos it was fun... but then I did get 99% in one of my RE exams so the teacher couldn't get too angry with me!

yeah.
No one. Not even someone really bad could really condemn someone to HELL for ETERNITY.
Purgatory perhaps, although if he's all powerful he wouldn't need it.
And if he's all powerful and omni present he wouldn't have had the whole Eden issue.

I got all confused cos there's two gods in christianity - the old testiment one and the new one. unless it's one god who keeps changing his mind...

yeah.
One who advocates peace and love and one who says that if theres an opposing nation who don't surrender then kill everyone in the city, but if they do surrender then you only kill the men, and take the women and children as slaves.

I figure that if there really is some form of superior being (dolphins! and possibly ants.) really is Good, then it'll be quite happy with you if you do your best to be good.

and doing it for yourself, not for heaven.
Doing good so you can go to heaven kind of defeats the point.

exactly.
It's amasing how a discussion about the measles can turn into a theological debate, isn't it.
