Hello, westerner
The Reverend Something or Other Started conversation May 28, 2004
I've heard occasional mention of you from our common friend Chris and thought perhaps I would introduce myself. I'm Nick, and my story is pretty much there in my PS, without animations, woo-hah, or anything.
Feel free to stop by, chat a bit, our time-zones are only a couple hours apart.
Do have a good evening.

Not quite, friend. The other lad in the "Last one to post" is waynefrwpg. He is also about 45 and I would guess ex-military as well.
I'm the near-45 yr-old ex-air-force lad in Trenton, Ontario. I did spend a few short stays in Alberta, one long weekend as escort to the detention facility in Edmonton and then a leadership course near Red Deer.
Now that that is clarified, do stop by, meet some of the friends I enjoy the game threads with, and enjoy.
Nick

And a good evening to you, sir. How has the day been treating you?

Ah I missed this earlier! I was multitasking-alternating between a couple other threads here, running back & forth to the CD player, writing an e-mail & making a posting to the "What Music..." thread (latest Harry Manx CD, west eats meet). Actually the day's been extremely considerate in its handling of me. I think we've both had a few where we're mishandled & manhandled & just plain handled all too inconsiderately.
Hope your's went well too.

Just thought I ought to drop by and mention ... I have again had cause to visit your province. A few hours of delay at the Calgary airport on Monday, and quite a bracing week here in Edmonton area. Actually, we based ourselves out of St Albert, and dug around Cardiff, Fort Saskatchewan and then into Namao to ship the proceeds of it all. Much bigger than I remembered it all, and certainly much cooler than the spring-time of '84 was.
Recent changes in statement of duties means that I will find myself here again, probably twice, before the end of '07. As well as Yellowknife, Eureka, the Rock, a couple of points in Scova Notia, Winnipeg ... And then the man in Ottawa with the deep pockets will get serious about taskings.

Ah ok...yes quite a bracing week, the province has broken a few records in the low temp/this date category, some of them from the 1800s! Yes a fair bit cooler than the spring of '84. It has recently warmed up, it's only about -5 just after 5pm with a low of -1 forecast for overnight. Well, happy trails & happy tasking!

Yo, Mister ACE sir. I saw a thread today, attached to an entry about Ottawa. Perhaps you might call on U7145282 ? If not as the formal ACE'ing, atleast to call his attention to the Cdn Researchers Club.

Oh, and I will be in your zone again for a couple of weeks. Well, more specifically staying in St Albert and working near Cardiff. Anyway, I do hope you have finally gotten rid of that ice and snow ...

Ah, that's cool then. The last time in, we arrived about half-way through a freakishly heavy and early storm ... that left the main route from the airport to St Albert a mass of 4" thick ice, with irregular tire ruts. And an amazing number of cars, SUV's, even transports ! in ditches. Our daily travels had us up to Cardiff, back and forth to Fort Saskatchewan, a couple of dips into Namaio ... Most of it kinda ugly.
Having left light rains and 11C, and meeting that -28C and windchill of -43 or so ... Damn !!!

Definitely not a pleasant change! Hopefully a Much nicer welcome this time. You'll see what was Under all the ice'n'snow!

Hmmmm, ... Let's see. I spent a Saturday in Edmonton with a chap that I knew when we were 12. He, his wife and 3 kids kept me busy, so I didn;t see much of the city. That would have been immediately after a leadership course at Penhold, late April '83. I also escorted a chap to detention barracks, and spent the Thanksgiving week-end (my birthday as well) of '84, in Namaio barracks with $15 pocket money. And then the last week of November last ...
I might actually SEE some of the area this time !!!

I just looked at the weather estimators. While I have 30C and humidity today, you seem to be wet and cool'ish (17-20C, source dependent).
A query: I'll be required to work all day Saturday, but will probably have Sunday free. Without independent wheels this time, I might get out by cab ... Are you located unreasonably far from St Albert?

jaz'd(ace & yada yada *sigh* chocolate yada) Posted Jun 17, 2007
Actually I am, just south of central Edmnnton(east of the University)-apparently so is anhaga. He has the transportation.

Rev Nick { Only the dead are without fear } Posted Jun 17, 2007
I did see parts of the University grounds, about 5:30 in the morning. That ought to show you how good of a driver my mate is, travelling from St Albert to the airport!!!
I don't know what my energy levels will be then anyway, but I was thinking if the hack-fare wasn't too horrid, a coffee somewhere would pass a bit of amiable time. Maybe next time then ... There is a tasking in the autumn that will have me away to one or two of our transmitter sites, and alone. Alone, I have my own wheels then.
