I have come to rescue her!
She was always my love, my first, my only. I had hopes for the two of us. Her parents approved of me and I was always at the top of her dance card. I am, like my father and grandfather, exceptionally well-placed in the banking and social milieux, and although we were not engaged, it was seen as inevitable by our set.
Then he appeared.
Out of deference to my love's reputation and the tender ears of our listeners, I will not go into details about his parlous lies, his fake credentials, his dastardly actions. But even though her family tearfully gave her up for lost, I persevered. I kept looking. I put out feelers through my banking contacts. And finally I found her.
