Well, here goes.....
Hi everyone (or should that be anyone, as in "is there anybody out there...")
This is my first introduction to this h2g2 lark (is there any such thing as a second or third introduction? Hmmmm...)
Let's see now - I'm male, 50-odd, living in North-West England, now retired from a lifelong sea-going career, and under Her Ladyship's (aka the Wife's)feet. Keen on gardening (that was a shock to us both!) and a budding dahlia specialist. (Budding - get it?) Also like music - very catholic tastes, but keen on Pink Floyd, Status Quo http://www.statusquo.co.uk/" >http://www.statusquo.co.uk/ and Tony Bennett http://www.tony-bennett.com/" >http://www.tony-bennett.com/ - some mixture, huh? Am absolutely nuts about DORIS DAY, too, http://www.dorisday.com/" >http://www.dorisday.com/ 
- so if you want her Fan Club address etc, I'm yer man.
That'll do for now. After all, I'm just a novice at this kind of thing.... :-)
