Hitchhikers got me through
Tonsil Revenge (PG) Posted Sep 4, 2007
I've been watching the movie on DVD since Shnooks got me a copy for my birthday or something a couple years ago. I must admit that I have to put the mute on during the Madagascar conversation on the roof just before Zaphod shows up.
I still find it irritating that Zaphod and Trillian are wearing each other's knickers.
I watched it in the theatre with Shnooks, who had read the books years after she watched the TV show on video from the rental store or was it the library...
She's also been able to listen to the original radio program for most of her life. I still have it on cassette next to my bed.
After all this time I find it most bothersome that it isn't a longer movie. I also wish we could see more of the Heart of Gold, like Zaphod's bed room and all the cool junk that was built into the control panel, like the accelerator pedals, the pistols, and the manuals that one still shot shows Trillian studying.
As part of my regular cycle of viewing, I also include "The Fifth Element" and "Long Kiss Good Night". I used to include "De-Lovely", the the musical bio of Cole Porter with Kevin Kline, but I finally got sick of it, just as I did with Hellboy, after watching it a couple hundred times.
When I'm really depressed, I watch all the Marx Brothers movies I have on hand one right after the other.
I often wonder what it would have been like if the Marx Brothers had done Hitchhikers. Harpo would have made a great Arthur Dent. Chico could be Ford and Groucho would definitely be Zaphod. Margaret Dumont would be a natural as Trillian. The only problem would be Marvin... I don't see Zeppo... maybe Jack Benny... Yeah!

I like the Hitchhiker movie, but not enough to own it. Still, it had its great moments. Loved the bit about the yarn characters and ship on Heart of Gold, for instance.
I don't know if I would call it old school sci-fi or not.
Only thing in movie I really disliked -- Marvin. He should have been tall and thin and morose looking, like a damaged C3PO.
I've been listening to So Long and Thanks for All the Fish on audio book.

Yeah; i always see Marvin as veeeeeeeeery veeeeeeeeeery droopy too.
"Waaaaaaaaaaaah, i tried to be a hoopy frood & ended up a droopy...um...um...waaaaaaaaaah, i can't even rhyme robot with anything. Stuff it, i give up. I blame the Thesaurus."
