Hello Emmily.....I'm not all that sure about how to add stuff to my space....if I wanted to scan something in (eg a piece of music or some photos), how would I go about doing that? I really appreciate your help, btw. See I found the smileys???

Hi Chikispirit.

To let the BBC keep control over the content of what's on h2g2, (and to help keep the size of data to be downloaded to a reasonable level), you can't upload photos or suchlike to h2g2, or have links on pages that cause things outside h2g2 to be displayed on a h2g2 page.

If you have photos, the best thing to do is put them up on a page on a website somewhere else, and stick a link to *that* page on your h2g2 homepage - that's what most people with pictures (including me) do.

PS - I'm not anyone official on h2g2 - I'm just browsing around, and thought I'd say Hi to a few new members, and it seemed worth trying to answer your question in case you were in a hurry to get a reply. I *assume* Emmily will say something similar.

PPS - I'm sorry about you losing that first entry you were writing - if you're writing anything large, it's probably best to do it outside h2g2 (in Notepad or similar if you use Windows), and then cut-and-paste from there into a browser window when you're ready to see what it looks like. There's always a chance that something you spent ages on just disappears otherwise.

PPPS - If you haven't been pointed there already, A148907 'Ask h2g2' is well worth a visit to find interesting conversations, and to meet many h2g2 characters.

Hey Potholer! Thanks very much for the informative reply I'll try it out.... there's so much to look at here isn't there? I keep getting sidetracked....

Use plain text when you write an entry (i.e. use note pad) then copy and paste it otherwise you get control codes like &#8230 popping up.
