irony of cars
Posted Sep 2, 2002
About five years ago my old car had finally given up the ghost. As I needed one for work I ran down to my friends used car dealership to get my new ride.
There were two models that caught my eye.The first a Toyota four door only four years old.The other a family van good for up to six people sitting.
As my wife and I had no kids and did not plan on any anytime soon and the fact that the four door was about $4,000.00 cheaper we took the Toyota.
The next day while leaving work I heard a sound that is as clear five years on as it was that afternoon.I hit the breaks in a second but it seemed to me an hour at the time.I jumped out and raced around to the other side to find-
A metal poll that was part of a new pedestrian rail had pierced my car from the front wheel all the way along to the back one .(like a knife to butter.)
(The first irony of this was.)
My company has two parking areas. One for small cars and four door. The other is for larger family vans and four wheel drives(this one had no new public rail to trash your car with)
(The second irony)
It cost me to the amount of about $4,000.00 to replace my cars body.
About the same as what I had hoped to bank out of this.
(The ironic surprise)
Two weeks later my wife and I found out that we were going to have our first child of two.
(The final irony)
Now that I have a family I find myself in need of a family mover but with two kids, Who can afford it ?

A few years ago my old car finaly gave up the ghost and as I needed one for work I ran down to my friends car dealership to by a new used one.
Two cars got my eye.One a people mover good for six the other a four door Toyota. As the four door was not only about $4,000.00 cheaper and the fact that there was only myself and my wife I got the Toyota.
The next day I drove my car to work .While leaving that afternoon I heard a sound that still is as clear in my mind five years on as it was then.
It took only a second to hit the break but as I already knew what was going on somehow it seemed an hour.
I raced around to the other side of the car to find a metal bar that was part of a new pedestrian safety railing had pierced the front end of my Toyota from the front wheel all the way along to the back like a knife to butter.
This little thing cost me about $4,000.00 (I had saved not buying the van.
(The irony is) -there are two parking areas at my work. One for smaller cars 4 door and another for larger vans ,people movers and trucks without any new rail.
(The later irony is-) Two weeks later my wife and I found out that we were going to have our first child.(suprise!)
(The final irony is-) Now we are at child number to I find myself shopping for a family van. Stanlyism.

Some might think 'so what'!If he was driving the van it would have been trashed too!
Not so my friends for you see there are two parking spaces where I work .One for smaller cars and four doors and another for vans and small trucks ect with no big as metal poll sticking out of the safety rail on the public road just outside the parking areas exit)
Oh well!

About five years ago my old car gave up the ghost. As I needed another A.S.A.P for work I ran straight down to an old friends car yard.He showed me two models they had in my price range.
One was a family mover good for six people. The other a four door Toyota. I decided on the four door for two reasons. One;cheaper! It was about $4,000.oo less than the van and two;no kids! With only myself and my wife the Toyota was best.'Bank the money'.I said to myself.
The very first day out I was pulling out of the parking area at work when I heard a sound (Not a loud sound)but one that still plays with my sanity today.
The second it took me to put on the breaks seemed an hour.I jumed out and ran to the other side. There,a metel poll had pierced my new car from just behind the front wheel all the way along the body to the back.
This little thing cost me about $4,000.00 (from the bank) and two weeks later we found that my wife was pregnant with our first of two children. (next time take the bus!)The final irony in this is next month I'll be buying a family mover 'six seater'. stanlyism.

It's the wildest time
to think about the ones that
never made it home in the evening
for rosses and rhyme
a caption to a word
that never played true to the sibling
for when I think of you in the hollow
the way you played out your life
I pray I may never follow
I still believe we belong to life
