Hi there! And welcome to h2g2. My name is Solnushka and I am one of the volunteer ACEs, which basically means that I flit around greeting new researchers like yourself, spelling really badly in the process and helping out wherever I can.

I love your name story. Apparently, my parents had a habit of referring to the womb entombed me as Hepzibah, though thankfully they settled on a considerably less odd one when I finally arrived...

Oh a splendid topic... I strongly suggest you post it at ask h2g2, as I'm sure this one will run and run!

Let me see, basic criteria for me are:

has to be a bit unusual, can't be doing with my kid haveing the same name as ever third person in his/her class, but obviously not too odd...

consideration must be given to short forms: I al;ways rather liked Anstace as a name, but that would get shortened to Stace, and I don't think so...

I'm also rather limited to Russian names at the mo, for various reasons.

So choices at the mo are Illya for a boy (probably because of the huge crush I had on a tv character of that name when I was younger, oh dear, but also cos it's one of the few Russian names which isn't over used. And Daria for a girl, although I'm a bit worried about Dasha, the short form.

Course, my husband has other ideas, but since it is an entirely academic subject right now, I don't think we have a problem...

That's beautiful names!
How would I post that to ask H2G2? Do you think that is a good way of getting more answers? Then I'll certainly do so if I know how.

If you're using alabaster (mostly white screen) then there should bbe a blue button marked 'discuss this entry' at the bottom of the ask h2g2 page (see link above). Click on it, add a title, and away you go!
