Why, hello Heather...

It really is quite a pleasure to meet you. My name is Alex Chaser; at the moment I'm considering changing it to Bah the black sheep of the northern circle. (Thus, the very long nickname...) I, too, am interested in philosophy, and cinnamon rolls. Yum. Deliciously put.
In case you are wondering why a perfect stranger has suddenly greeted you, it is because I am an ACE (Assistant Community Editor) and I want to help you become familiar with H2G2 . Cinnamon rolls are just the beginning - there are Guide Entries to write and people to meet and to munch on ...So where do you begin?
The ACE who welcomed me to the scheme, Feisor (U38014), created a wonderful page of links and tips at A719840, which you can use as a launching pad as you explore H2G2. For most of the same links without all the text in between, you might want to visit my link page at A682238. Any time you want to return to your space while exploring, just click the "My Space" button near the top left of your screen. Also, if you need help with anything, you can reply to this posting (just hit the "Reply" button below, I hear it won't hit back ) and I'll answer your questions to the best of my ability. If I can't help you, I'll refer you to one of the other ACEs or a Guru.
Wanna know a little more about me (or anyone else who posts in any conversation you're a part of)? Just click my name at the top of this posting (next to "Posted By") and you can visit my personal space. If you choose to do this, I recommend checking out a conversation. H2G2 Researchers are extremely helpful and friendly; I'm sure you'll feel completely at home here in no time!!! Hope to hear from you soon...
~~~Alex
FwT
Though the entry on omniscience and free will was somewhat confusing , it is a *very* interesting topic .
Do we have free will, or no?
My inclination is to remove God from the picture, therefore there is no omniscience, and humans definitely have free will.
But, that is only *my* preference/opinion.
I'd like to hear some other people's...
I read it actually and was planning on replying. As a Christian with a firm belief in free will (lets save homosexuallity for another time eh?) I had troble reconciling the idea that God knew everything, but still gave us free will. So I came to the conclusion that for every choice we could possibly make there's an alternate universe and God is aware of the infinate possiablities, so we still have free will or the more simple explanation might be that He could know all but chooses instead to give humans free will and not see the future. Those were my thoughts in the matter anyway.
a parallel universe for each possible choice, and God knows all the possibilities...
*that* is an interesting, and mind-boggling, concept
(but throw in God and I find the entire topic quite mind-boggling, )
good explanation, at first i wanted to try to figure out how one might go about calculating the possibilities, but as I thought about it I realized they really *are* infinite, so I should stop hurting my poor head...
a God who can keep an eye on all of that must be a great God indeed.
If you find something confusing, please comment on it in peer review: that convo is a bit dead and very frustrating
I hope you're finding h2g2 OK to deal with!
I actually had the same theory, with the exception that rather than alternative universes, but that He's within time, yet knows all the possibilities of choices, yet He just doesn't know which one will occur yet...
