Hi there. Thanks, I think he's been great so far (for what little we've seen of him) and I'm really looking forward to this series of Doctor Who. He was great in Casanova.

Doctor Who's really become popular again though hasn't it? Which is weird after it being this cult thing for ages. Even my girlfriend likes it.

I was always a fan of Sylvester McCoy's Doctor (not always a popular choice smiley - winkeye, based on some conversations with other Doctor Who fans), but I think David Tennant (as good as Christopher Eccleston was) is more my style of Doctor - but then again they're all great (to paraphrase the Brigadeer).

First half of the year seems to be a good time for television. smiley - smiley

It is rather odd that Doctor Who has become so popular.

And no your right it isn't a popular choice. Eccelston has been my faverate doc so far, i've only just got into the series, i'm too young to remmber the original.

A lot of people think Tennent is a more old fashioned doctor..

Well David Tennent is both an old style and a new style Doctor... if that makes sense. He seems to take the best of the old series and puts it in his own style... which is probably the best way to do it.

The new series was "fantastic" though. :D And as strange as it sounds probably not a million miles away from the very last series of the old series (season 26).

I was only very young though when Sylvester McCoy was Doctor (6/7) - I'm not that old smiley - winkeye. When I was born Peter Davison was the Doctor!

I really liked most episodes from the last series. I though RTD did a really good job on the series as a whole. Wasn't too keen on Boom Town, but I could see where it was coming from.

Weirdly i think that if there are any problems with the series it lies with RTD himself. Don't get me wrong, i think he did a wonderfull job, but sometimes he lacked a certain plot based narrative. I mean his dialogue and interplay between charictor is stunning, just look at some of Eccelston's lines! yet people like stephen moffet can do charicter and plot.

I'm familer with the old series. I went out and hunted down a few episodes after suffering from Doctor Who withdrawl. Though i'm slightly unpopular in this I think Peter Davidson did a fantastic job. He has a sort of energy, and i liked the element of humanity in his charictor.

I think Peter Davison did a great job. From my experience of Doctor Who fandom nothing is unpopular as such. There are always the vocal dissenters, and the vocal supporters. I guess its a lesson for life - like what you want to like smiley - winkeye

It used to annoy me that people were quite against Sylvester McCoy, but I couldn't help enjoying them. Particularly his last stories.

In fact I would go as far to say that there isn't a bad Doctor. Tom Baker was very good, but had bad episodes also, and he generally considered the best by a lot of people. But I liked the way that Sylvester McCoy played him... that and he was *my* first Doctor. I think in a way that makes a difference.

I know what you mean about RTD though. I felt his earlier stories lacked something. I'm not a big fan of Rose (although its the first of the new series!) or Boomtown, but I can't fault Bad Wolf or The Parting of the Ways.

I really enjoyed the Unquiet dead, I think that really kick started my renewed vigour for Doctor who, and Dalek, Fathers Day, The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances and the last two episodes, are absolutely fantastic and would watch them again and again (and have smiley - winkeye). And of course the Christmas Invasion which surely heralds another Golden age of Doctor Who - which is saying something considering how sucessful the last series was!

How very true, I guess in the long run it doesn’t matter what other people think! If you’ll bear with me I think people’s choice of Doctor’s really relies on their own intrinsic personality. I like Peter Davidson because I like the human element too his charictor, some people don’t. I have to agree that there hasn’t ever been a bad doctor, they all have there good and bad points.

I get what you mean, Christopher Eccleston for me IS the doctor, and I’ll always have a sort of affection for him. Though I have to say I REALLY like the look of Tenant, he was spectacular in the Christmas invasion, the TARDIS is in good hands, trust me on this!My opinions on him are well documented!

In a very large way the Parting of the Ways really is flawless, but the little writer inside of me kept thinking that the vortex destroying the Dalek’s was a little to convenient..

I have to agree with you on your episode list, each and every single one of them is superb. Especially the Doctor dances. There’s a line that no one really notices but it really struck a cord with me: (It goes something like this)

Constantine: “Before the war I was a father, a grandfather. Now I’m neither, but I’m still a doctor”

Doctor: “Yeh, I know what you mean”

Yeah I thought that was a great line. And hinted a lot about the Doctor's past. The Time War really screwed the Doctor up, and its amazing he's managed to stay (relatively) sane considering he lost his entire family and his race!

The Time War throws open all kinds of interesting ideas and story lines. Whether Russell T Davies (or another of the series writers) decides to tap in to that time will tell. Maybe more will be revealed in the next series. It would be interesting to see exactly what the Doctor did that caused the end of the Time War - in his own words "I made it happen!".

I have a theroy if your intrested>?

But i think your right, it's a nice touch to his charictor. Though wether he is sane is meyhap a point of argument. I'm not entilly sure, the ninth doctor was a bit of an emmotional mess. He just hid it rather well.

Yes he was a bit of an emotional mess! I am interested in your theory though...

Cool. I'm of the opinion that the Doctor destroyed Gallifrey to stop the daleks, like he was going to do with earth. A single planet for the universe sort of thing. Thats why he hates the dalek because it reminds him of what he did, i mean the guilt he must have felt is astounding, hence the emmotional mess!

I think that makes perfect sense actually. He's always the one left with the difficult decision to make... and he has to deal with the guilt of that. But then again he did say the Dalek's destroyed his home world - but then that could just be his way of dealing with it.

I do wonder what happened to the other Time Lords. I mean in particular the ones he knew. Obviously his Grandaughter Susan, The Master, The Rani, Romana... perhaps they could have survived some how, particularly the first three. Romana may have had no choice but to stay on Gallifrey...

I'm not sure about the other Time Lords, no doubt a few of them will appear at some point. Though i'm not sure that would be an entirely good idea.
