I was a Douglas Adams fan from early childhood. One of my fonder memories growing up was listening to the radio shows with my father. Many nights I would listen to them by myself as I was going to sleep, often just flipping the cassette tape over for 2 weeks, listening to the two episodes over and over. When I finally started reading the books after listening to the radio shows for years, I could hear their voices very cleary and found I could recite passages without having to read them.
Part of the reason his books had such an impact on me was that at the same time period I was being introduced to Zen. Zen and Adams make a powerful combo on an impressionable mind.
Aside from that I have many interests, such as punk music, rollerblading, cross-country skiing, role-playing, Middle-Earth, traveling, history, psychology, politics, ethics and writing. I'm no expert in these subjects, but I do enjoy them and often find them linked together, which suits me just fine. Tolkiens Middle-Earth being something that I can completely be engrossed in. Often by my bedside you'll find the Silmarillion, the appendicies from Lord of the Rings and Unfinished Tales in a cluttered pile with many book markings.
I always hear people list traveling as an interest, but few of them ever seem to do much real traveling. I don't think of myself as being a extremely well traveled person, but since I've been to 15 states in the US, 1 territory, 3 continents and 10 countries, but I do feel that I have done a bit of traveling in my time.
I have learned a fair amount of German along with a smattering of Thai, that I've about nearly forgotten, and a few words in Japanese.
Ideologically I am a socialist and a humanist. I believe in the power of reasoning and just wished everyone used it.
I also have a beautiful dog named Titus.
