I can't stand it
Hypatia Started conversation Oct 4, 2010
A woman just came in looking for one of James Patterson's older novels. She walked up to circ, carrying a book, and said "I'm looking for a book and can't find it." S asked her for the title she wanted. "Cradle and All". She keyed it into the catalog and it came up as available. So she walked over to the stacks with the woman and sure enough, it wasn't on the shelf. Then S looked at the book the woman had in her hand and it was "Cradle and All" by James Patterson. She had the book in her hand! So S took it from her, put it on the shelf, then took it back off and handed it to her. Then they walked back to the circ station and S checked it out to her.
I did a good job training S.

We've gotten a lot of dumb questions over the years. My favorite is still the man who phoned me many years ago and asked for reference. We are too small to have an actual reference librarian, so whoever answers the phone is it. I said, "I'll be glad to help you." He proceeded to ask, "What color is my dog?" Not having a clue who he was or whether I'd ever met his dog, I replied "Blond." "I thought so!" he exclaimed. "I'll tell my wife."

I wonder if he pointed the phone receiver at his dog.

Your colleague is really well trained.
Oh my. We had a lot of different customers in our shop, but I can't recall any similar incident.

The utter stupidity of the public is scary. How much do you want to bet the woman is registered to vote.

Stupid, Websailor. She was far too young for a senior moment.
Had the book in her hand. *pounds head against wall*
That was even dumber than the woman who came up and chewed me out because it was wrong for us to have an elevator and not let people use. She saw the sign that says "In case of fire, use the stairs." She thought that meant she couldn't use it unless there was a fire.

I had a moment earlier today when e-mailing the preliminary financial reports for September.
One person in Corporate Finance received an e-mail and replied asking what it was.
Well, she had asked for a 'product number' which is usually used for keeping track of costs related to a specific project and to ensure no other costs end up there.
What she had received was her (obviously) first 'product number' report showing all the costs allocated to said number. And she's been with Corporate Finance for almost a year now... *sighs*
Halloooo? I thought you wanted a number to keep trace of the costs, and that's a report showing exactly that

Ti, I'm relieved to know the dumb people aren't only in WC. It makes you wonder how some people get their jobs.

The woman today is definitely a candidate for a Darwin Award.
Speaking of, has anyone watched 1000 Ways to Die on Spike? It boggles the mind. There are some incredibly dumb people in the world.

I have seen that show and I doubt they do much fact checking.

They do seem invented. How could anyone actually be that stupid or careless? Like the guy who had his friend perform a redneck version of liposuction on him in his garage with a shop vac.

This is a horrible tv show in the US.
I cannot believe anybody on hootoo admits to watching it......even *I* don't watch it, and I copped to looking at the swimsuit competition on that channel when Elektra wasn't home...
