More Good Reads

Executive Orders.

This one is (I think) really by Tom Clancy. A nice thick book with a strong plot - so for me an ideal holiday read on the Isle of Lewis. The "love" scenes are a bit much - but then the whole plot is a bit over the top. Contrasts nicely with the setting in which I read it - overlooking Loch Erisort.

The Hero's Walk.

This is by Anita Rau Badami. I've read at least one other of hers. I enjoy novels set outside the west. This one is an "East meets west" plot (a common one) but is no less enjoyable for all that - some lovely light touches - a slow read after Clancy!

Deep Six.

By Clive Cussler is back to the unbelievable hero genre - this time featuring Dirk Pitt. A good fun book - I like a good few lighter reads and this qualifies.

Another Good Read

I've just finished "The Scold's Bridle" by Minette Walters.

This is my second of her books, I read "The Shape of Snakes" a few weeks back and was impressed by the quality of the writing.

The Scold's Bridle is an earlier work I think, still showing a good plot with some interesting characters. One omy common problems in reading novels is that like in real life I cannot rmemeber names...

When a book has well formed consistent characters I therefore find it easier to follow.

Walters makes a lot of references to classic literature - virtually none of which I know. Typical I guess of an engineering graduate..

Whilst a little "darker" (read depraved) than I like -(but hey - it is a murder!) it was a great read.

Annoying to find an intro to another novel at the back of the paperback - no doubt one the library doesn't have. (I object to paying so never reserve books)

Books I've Read

Douglas Adams: The Salmon of Doubt
Fascinating collection and frustrating unfinished Dirk Gently, better owned than borrowed.

Ruth Silvestre: A Harvest of Sunflowers
The sequel to "A House in the Sunflowers," Loveley pictures of the Lot valley in France, loads of mouthwatering food memories.

Tom Clancy: Without Remorse
Unbelievable (no really..) vietnam hero action, and vigilante "justice" - not a pleasant read despite the fact I often enjoy Clancy
