I've just finished "The Scold's Bridle" by Minette Walters.
This is my second of her books, I read "The Shape of Snakes" a few weeks back and was impressed by the quality of the writing.
The Scold's Bridle is an earlier work I think, still showing a good plot with some interesting characters. One omy common problems in reading novels is that like in real life I cannot rmemeber names...
When a book has well formed consistent characters I therefore find it easier to follow.
Walters makes a lot of references to classic literature - virtually none of which I know. Typical I guess of an engineering graduate..
Whilst a little "darker" (read depraved) than I like -(but hey - it is a murder!) it was a great read.
Annoying to find an intro to another novel at the back of the paperback - no doubt one the library doesn't have. (I object to paying so never reserve books)

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
