Hello and welcome to h2g2
I am one of the site's Aces and it is my job to meet and greet new researchers and make sure that they are ok and can find their way around the site.
A page well worth looking at is the <./>Welcome</.> page. Here you can find out some general information about the guide and links to help pages.
May I also suggest visiting the <./>GuideML-Clinic</.>. GuideML is the computer language that h2g2 uses, and this page will help you to fill your user space with all sorts of neat stuff
If you are wondering how to make the smiley pictures like then click on <./>Smiley</.> which will take you to a page which shows all the smileys.
If you are feeling a bit lost then clicking on <./>Dont Panic</.> will take you to the help pages, or feel free to ask me by clicking on the reply button below, and I will do as much as I can to help
Hope that answers any querys you have for the moment.

ERR...COULD YOU TELL ME HOW TO WRITE IN ITALICS AT ALL PLEASE?!?!?
Hello from your ACE...

I don't know about doing it in conversations such as this one but to do it on guide entries in guideML you put ... around the text you want to be italic. Check out http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/classic/GuideML-I for more information

Right, I've checked and you definitely cannot use italics in conversations but it has been suggested that the use of capitals, *asterisks* _underscore_ /slashes/ and ::colons:: do the same job

I'M WONDERING...THAT TONTO NAME ISN'T IN REFERENCE TO THE 'INDIAN' IN...ERR... THAT PROGRAMME OF OLDER DAYS??

In guideML entries, just put around the text you want to be italic.
And yes, Tonto is from The Lone Ranger. I got the nickname from a rude birthday card with a tonto joke on that I once sent to a friend
By the way, if you talk without the caps lock on people won't think you are shouting

When you write a guide entry, there is the option to put it in plain text or in guide ml which is where you can do fancy stuff but is a little harder to learn
