Welcome to the site, but many people don't seem to like America and have a rather low opinion Americans.

One thing to note is that when you use Word to spell check entries, you have to be careful. The software here doesn't like smart quotes. It'll put ' and " as gibberish of you're not careful.

What then is the solution? Can I not use word to compose? If you think the software is turning my prose to jiberish then you should see the jibberish I would inflict on the group with out the aid of word!

I type my entries here, cut and paste them to word, and then cut and paste them back. Then I review the it carefully, and make sure the smart quotes aren't still there. They look different.

You can also turn them off in MS Word. This is from the Word hlep files.

1. On the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect, and then click the AutoFormat As You Type tab.

2. Under Replace as you type, select or clear the "Straight quotes" with "smart quotes" check box.

I don't do it, because I like the Smart Quotes in my normal Word documents.
