*sigh*
Yup, i can relate to this little lot as i sit here waiting for "Monsieur Message Mélanger" to possibly squeak! No, it's not a language problem, nor a cultural one & i hate to put it down to gender BUT it does seem that usually the females are doing the watching, waiting & yearning bit whilst the males are...er...watching TV maybe, yearning after...something nice & practical & waiting for...a bit of peace from the females who are giving 'em s**t because they didn't call?
Nyssa (or name of the day, you will always be Nyssa to me, i got onto you in the first place 'cos of the name remember!
)

There's enough for everyone; please help yourselves. I'm off to have a good lie down. It's a rather cold night and bed is probably the warmest place to be. Whether I sleep or not is neither here nor there, but I have a copy of Gibbon's 'Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire' handy in case I need a powerfully soporific read.
Ivan.

Ivan,
Well, if reading Decline and Fall doesn't put you to sleep I guess you could always knock yourself over the head with it.
I'll be here for awhile, I reckon. I wonder if Nyss has anything crunchy to eat to go along with the ? *goes off to inspect kitchen cupboards . . .*

Oh, ningy.
Is there anything you can study or something creative you can do? Something fulfilling and distracting might be good for you if you can concentrate on it.

God, you guys are nice to me . I didn't actually go to sleep, but i did have some nice things happen (see new journal) and you all had such nice things to say to me. I'm especially reveling in being called Chiquitita and Ningy

nadia Posted May 1, 2004
it does sound similar, but is unrelated. Ningy means, sort of, nasty. Think of the feeling you get when you put your tongue on a battery or bite foil. I meant approximately 'oh, poor dear, that's crappy for you'.
But if you like pretty names I could call you cariad

Now, this is a bloke thing, it really is.
I get no end of ribbing if i make even the smallest effort to contact sara if we are having a lad's night. The slightest thing, such a text message is seen as s ign of being 'under the thumb', hen pecked otr whatever...
Just seems like common courtesy to me, really.

We have a tradition that on boys nights out mobiles are only for taxis. If you are seen calling or answering a call a chorus of "I just called to say I loved you" so loud goes up that you cant hear who's on the phone anyway.
I think women have been sold a very dodgy view of how men work.
Relationships dont often survive the expectations we have of what they will be like. If a relationship is bad in *really* bad ways thats one thing, but Id never sulk or get upset if someone forgot my Birthday its just a daft anniversery. We might as well celebrate the 26th of each month or Satyruday because thats when I was born. If we're going to be so self centred why not go the whole hog? Anyone fancy sending me cards and every Happy Birth Time at 8.30 am?
If people are good to me on the whole thats great, anything over and above that is wonderful, but I wont cut my nose of to spite my face over something that in the grand scheme of things dosent mean an awful lot. Birthdays were great to lookforward to as a kid and treats were on the whole apreciated when I was growing up, but looking I appreciate the everday things like earning the money to feed me and making sure I had clean clothes to wear much more.
I forget most dates why should I get stick for forgetting an anniversry and would it make sense for Liz to cop an attitude or start a fight that destroyed our relationship over such a thing?

I actually never let ANYONE forget my birthday! But I do think that remembering little details and such show an extra bit of effort and caring that all relationships can benefit from.
Expecting too much is not healthy, but I think everyone has their own version of what 'too much' is. Which is something that both people need to sort out and have clear, I think.

I'd say that depends on how she feels about it - it's not difficult to 'force yousrself' to do things that you think nothing of, but the other person would really appreciate.
Of course,if your other half accepts that you don't celebrate birthdays enough to remember them, then there's no problem. But I bet you open your if you get them!

On the contrary, i think *men* have been sold a very dodgy view of how men work.
One doesn't need to be Friends like sap to show a little common courtesy. I pity any poor sap who tried that anything like that on me if I got my mobile out in a pub to call my loved one.
What is it? Some sort of macho bull-sh*t ritual? Fear of admitting commitment? I dunno, but I loathe it. Mostly it reminds of the drinking competition in Bklack Adder II, a bunch of sad b*st*rds standing around in a pub going 'Bum! That sounds a little bit like bum!' 'Phwoooaaaarrrr!'.
