My world...
I have the misfortune to currently be living in the US "Bible belt", where individualism and critical thought is heavily discouraged. If you throw a dart into the middle of the US, it would probably land in my front yard.
I spend a considerable amount of time trying to convince my fellow Americans that the US is NOT the glowing center of the universe that they think it is and that there really are other nations and peoples on this planet with opinions and beliefs other than ours. Like swimming up the Niagara Falls, I'm afraid. We're way too insular for our own good. Meanwhile, I keep my towel near at hand in the unlikely event of a Vogon ship dropping by... :-)
I came to H2G2 after reading "The Salmon of Doubt", where I first heard of H2G2. Such a wonderful idea, to create a real Guide! I am seeking intelligent life on this website, as there is very little where I currently live. If I weren't an adult back in college, I think my brain would have collapsed in on itself from the weight of all the sheer idiocy around me. I don't consider this part of Earth "Mostly Harmless"!
I think the concept of this site is facinating and can't wait to delve deeper into it. I have already told several people around the US about H2G2...we'll see if they're as interested as I am.
As far as my interests:
I am well-read and constantly reading more. Everything from the latest best-sellers to science/science-fiction. As you probably can tell from my nickname, I am a Star Trek fan, and I'm old enough to remember when the original series was prime-time. (Yeah, I'm THAT old.)
I also share my life with a wife, two teenage daughters in college, three Shetland Sheepdogs and lots of tropical fish. When not otherwise preoccupied with financial survival, I attend college in a Technical Writing program and occasionally build models of aircraft and spacecraft. I also love Monty Python and Douglas Adams.
In about a year, I'll be out of school and presumably worth hiring as something other than a minimum-wage slave. Of course, by then, the Vogons may have passed through and I'll be elsewhere.....

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
