Ooh, and speaking of Lovecraft (I've re-read several of his books recently, too ), most movies based on his books have been a little crappy... with the exceptions of From Beyond and The Re-Animator, which I loved. But apparently The Call of Cthulhu is really rather good. It's in my Netlifx queue... quite a ways down, actually, but it'll come eventually.

I found a DVD of this which I reckon you'll get a kick out of. I'll send it over at some stage next year.

It sounds awesome! I've never gotten around to seeing "The Kingdom" yet- it's surprisingly difficult to pin down- but I imagine I've seen enough horror and "weird" TV to totally "get" it. Thanks.
We've got a bit of snow. How's things over there, in general? Get up to anything good over the weekend?
Got up at the butt crack of dawn yesterday morning to go down to the Pier and see "Beowulf" in 3-D at the IMAX Theater. I would not have liked the film, really, if not for the 3-D part; I'd never actually been to a 3-D movie before, and it was kind of fun feeling like I'd been plopped right into an RPG. There's a certain novelty in having naked, 3-D CGI asses come flying past your face.

Ange is in that, right? And the nearest IMAX is Picadilly Circus. This is another of those films that renders me inadequate as folk like Ed say it's an insult to the book, while I go "there's a book?"
Watching some of the DVD at the moment, I forgot how hilariously dumb it is. It's Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker doing Tales From The Crypt.
I'm recovering, still a bit man-fluey but over the worst of it. The chronic mildew that built up in the bathroom recently has been got shot of, for the moment anyway. But I still pretty much hurt like no woman could ever understand.

>This is another of those films that renders me inadequate as folk like Ed say it's an insult to the book, while I go "there's a book?"<
Oh, it's an insult to the book all right. Plenty of what can optimistically be called "creative license". But big, loud fun for early on a weekend morning, especially when I don't get down to the Pier too often.
If it's any consolation, it wasn't Angie's ass. While she did appear "naked", it was some weird gooey-gold demonic sort of skin with no discernible naughty bits. Not even a nipple or a camel toe.
K suggests that the film would be brilliant for a drinking game; everyone take a shot anytime anyone says "I am Beowulf!" or "You are Beowulf!".
I'll never understand your affinity for mildew. Just teasing.
I get a bit around the tub drain now and then, on account of a drippy tap, but nothing like that impressive patch the bathroom at your old place used to generate. Sure, it's because the weather is damp- but couldn't the people who built the place(s) have used mildew-proof drywall and paint?
Glad to hear you're feeling better. Between you and me, I've been known to mope and moan when I'm under the weather, too.

These being housing association places, low rent in every sense, they don't really make much consideration for health and conditions. On a serious note, I think we're in for a tough winter on the elderly, the usual debate about how paltry state pension provision is, and the costs of keeping warm. Oh, and global warming isn't happening, obviously.
I will have to check Beowulf out at some stage. I'm not so ill as all that, but definitely not in any rush to go out for very long. Although I'm taking aunt Jane and cousin for lunch next weekend.

Hope the lunch is a nice time. Jane was so very nice to me when I was over visiting. Is the cousin you're lunching with one of the ones I met? A lady in her mid-20s and a rather jovial guy who was maybe in his mid-30s?
Oooh, dinner's here (Chinese delivery).

Younger cousin, though she's nearly 30 now, and doing very well for herself. Mortgage on a £¼m house in London. Sickening, really.
Hope your Chinese was good. Funny bit on Haven't A Clue last night;
"Yes, the Chinese bride I ordered, I'm not happy with her."
"Sorry to hear that sir. Can I offer you one in lieu?"
"Yes, okay..."
*calls out back* "WAN-IN LU!!"

That's about the same as here. It'll be close to that for a condo when I finally find one. Good on your cousin... I'll be WAY behind schedule, buying my first home. Two friends in their late 20s just closed on and moved into their *second* homes. Sigh. All it takes is one bad year to set you back for a decade.
Never seen "Haven't Got A Clue". I keep meaning to look for stuff on YouTube and never actually get around to it.

Oh, radio, OK. I can easily get that at home- it uses Real Player, right? I can never get BBC video links to work at home, but radio stuff works OK. Will try to check it out one day soon. It'd be nice if I could listen from here while I work, but I can understand the strain on the servers of 1000+ employees all streaming media.

Two more days till the four-day weekend. I have a headache and my entire body aches like I've been hit by a bus. No idea why I slept so poorly last night, except that we ate dinner really late.
Have you had lunch with your auntie and cousin yet?
K went to the Swedish deli yesterday for some traditional fare; rye bread, cheese, etc. Apparently he stood in line for over two hours. Gotta love it.

Bort bort bort!
How about that. I took today off to pay bills and get ready for a guy to come over and wash my living room carpet. It's really scuzzy, I've been looking forward to it. So I cleared the room out, dusted, hoovered, waited 2 hours; he just didn't show, so I've decided to save the money.
Tomorrow's my last day till 31st, we close up for a week . Cousin comes down Saturday at some point so we'll get lunch on Sunday probably. Tom wants me to come out on the lash on Christmas Eve, don't know if I'm up for that...

I hate it when I've rearranged my entire schedule around a service call and the s don't show up. I have notoriously bad luck with service technicians of any kind. Once I had a plumber leave a poo behind in my toilet.

Who knows. People are so weird.
I'm having a bad day. I'm SO busy, which has me on edge already. The guy who sits outside my office is a really noisy worker- types like he wears lead mittens and rustles papers like you wouldn't believe. I can't close my door- that only encourages a steady stream of visitors knocking/opening it and walking in.

Thankfully, I won't have one of those. I report directly to our CFO, but no one reports to me. Phew.

This assumes I'll be around in 5 months to take over. I really didn't see myself manager of a paper shack.

Just had a visit from Simon, Mary, Henderson and a sixties casualty called Peter who goes on a bit but is quite fun. They brought presents, Twiglets and beer.
