And I knew just as many "working class" or blue-collar kids from the scene as snotty suburbanites. Many more so, overall.
And Television and Pere Ubu predate the Pistols as well.
Not that I don't like UK punk (unlike many of the other punk fans I know, who prefer USAnian stuff), because I do.
Nor am I particularly snobby about a lot of USAnian music in general- we've come up with shit like Lynyrd Skynyrd and Bad Company. And you guys came up with T. Rex, Status Quo and The Sweet.

I don't like much punk, but what I do has mostly been US. People like the Pistols and the Jam, all that Oi Oi shit just left me cold.

I like the Jam. The "Oi Oi" stuff is OK, but I don't like it as much. Stiff Little Fingers and the Adicts, though... I'm a huge Stiff Little Fingers fan.

Lesbian.
Does "Another Girl, Another Planet" count? I love that record, but Wiki calls it New Wave. WDIK.

I'd tend to think of the Only Ones more as new wave than punk. The Replacements did a good cover. But I'm not sure whether they're technically punk or "indie rock". It's a good song, though.
You're the third person to call me a lesbian today.

Oh gawd, that thread gets funnier by the minute... did I just read someone call Oasis "ballsy" and "rock and roll". I nearly peed my pants.

Well, they are ballsy, sort of... they had the balls to go out and pitch that crap. And Britain has suffered for it ever since.

Picture if you will the Gallagher brothers, Young British Artist Damien Hirst, and their ilk all having champagne with Tony Blair at 10 Downing Street.

Rock and Roll!

Indeed!
Of course, there's some sort of car commercial on TV here that has the Clash version of "Pressure Drop" in it. There was a Cadillac commercial years ago with Led Zep's "Rock 'N' Roll", too. I'm not a big fan of Zep, but even still, I was a bit appalled.

There's have been no punk without The New York Dolls. Or The MC5.

I had a conversation with Michael Rosen about him once (famous poet and children's author). He's a man who knows his music! He uses Clapton to suss out whether or not people know what they're talking about.

I don't know why I dislike him so much, I just do. He's really just not that good. (IMO, not at all, but horses for courses, I guess)

Oooh, I've always hated prog.
With Clapton, it's not only that he's not that good, but that I think he's kind of a pr**k, too.

There's that, too. In our minds since thuis week was the fortieth anniversary of Enoch Powell's 'Rivers of Blood' speech.
I know you don't like joining threads where you might encounter The Wrong Sort....but I do wish you'd pitch in.

I do like some Floyd- earlier stuff mostly, and bits from Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here- but it's Syd I really like.
With you on the 13th Floor Elevators, Ed. And Blue Cheer!!

I know. You sent me some Blue Cheer.
Sure, bits of Echoes and Ummagumma are OK. It's all the Syd Barret drivel about bicycles that leaves me cold.
