My dad had a framed photo of Enoch Powell. Didn't stop him marrying a French-Vietnamese woman, then later a Scots-Gambian woman.

Yeah... sometimes even artists I love have some stuff I can't stand. But some artists are perfect.
You know who I hate more than Oasis and Coldplay combined, though? Radiohead. Some Britpop is really good, but those three are crap.

Juat read Ed's comment "And also, unfortunately, in at least one case - flutes.)" and knew immediately who he meant. Now mind you, I don't dislike Jethro Tull, but your comment reminded me of a term a friend of mine used to describe prog, as well as classic rock bands he didn;t like (Led Zep and Hawkwind for example): "elf rock". That always cracked me up.
I like Hawkwind, but the "elf rock" thing really makes me laugh, and not just because I've got a DVD of a Hawkwind concert with Michael Moorcock reading along, "Chronicle of the Black Sword". Good times!

I have to admit...Radiohead have passed my by. They're one of those bands where I've thought 'People really rate them - maybe I'm missing out.' (see also REM)...but I strongly suspect I'll dislike him.
Oasis - Like I said, I thought the first album was witty. (musically, that is)
Blur - no, I don't like them. But I kinda rate Albarn. At least he's up for new things. I like the way they alienated all their fans after Parklife.

Oh, I'm *so* going to start calling it elf rock!
Now..Hawkwind...they did have their pleasingly dark side...mostly involving The Kilmistermeister. I believe he was sacked for incompatible drugs.

Oh, I love Hawkwind, and I think Lemmy's brilliant. We've got a copy of his autobiography at home. It's written the way the man talks. I had to read a chapter or two at a time and take a break from it to keep my eyeballs from bleeding. It's great.
Thought you'd get a kick out of "elf rock", given your aversion to elves in literature. And in popular fiction that you don't think qualifies as literature.
I enjoyed a few of REM's early albums- "Dead Letter Office" and "Document" in particular. From "Green" forward, they're not worth listening to.

Radiohead have made some absolutely stunning music. Though I admit I gave up on them after Kid A. OK Computer was a masterpiece, but not something to indulge your depression (or psychosis) with. Rufus Wainwright's voice (or his vocal style) reminds me of Thom Yorke somewhat.

Well, IIRC, both you and Ed have bitch slapped me for this previously, but I absolutely cannot *stand* any of those Wainwrights.

I checked those links at home I've just been in the IT department here doing a h&s test. It's all quiet here sat in the test, slightly stoned, eating chocholate bars and drinking coffee listening to a scottish bloke tell me not to eat sugar and coffee and that illegal substances can be harmful if you ingest them. What? Plutonium? Harmful? Get out.
