I continue to be amazed by how much better ACEs are at greeting people than I was way back when I was an ACE... oh well, at least it wasn't like I was leaving a sinking ship smiley - winkeye

Eek - someone noticed me - scary!

Thanks for all the links! I've already spotted a few of them and I'll have a look through the others at some point.

When I first registered, I was somewhat overwhelmed with the size of the project and how small I felt in that, so I went temporarily mad. But now I'm back with a slightly stronger mind and some ideas :D Last time I read some pretty hefty conversations last time I appeared (on religion/faith/God stuff) which always gets a little mad. I think I'm going to stick to some lighter reading at least for a while until I get a feel for all that's going on.

That's why I did a Feeder page - A1018108, which seems a little less controversial than some other topics.

One thing that is scary is the sheer depth of stuff you can have on here - I have a few video documentaries on Feeder and could easily take vast amounts of info from them... but it'd get to a point where it'd all be too much. I guess that's what being a researcher is all about - having enough but not too much info.

Anyway, I'm not likely to be motivated enough to do too much, so I wouldn't worry about a sudden deluge of huge entries smiley - smiley

Huge Entries not a problem, the average size of an Edited Entry on the front page on any given day has gone up fairly steadily since the site launched, and my solo stuff is usually pretty long - see my Entries on Haskell, Pencils and the Special Constabulary for examples of that!

I'm thinking of doing one on the lambda calculus soon, or maybe something that'll help me revise for Computability - p.r. functions perhaps.

Emmily, what really impresses me is the number of useful links that go into greetings these days, I always used to lose the A-numbers smiley - blush

One question I have is - how do you stop it all being copied from other sites? I mean, the basic stuff I've put on the Huddersfield Town one (A1018432) is a summary of the htafc.com history page. To be thorough, it'd need to have all that in there. But of course I don't want to (and presumably legally can't) copy it all into here... how do you achieve a good balance? Oh and how do the Editors find out if it's original or not?

Your quite right X3JA there are copyright issues concerned with copying from another site..

This is not my area of knowledge though..smiley - smiley..my advice would be to ask the Scouts they would be able to advice you..smiley - ok..

MaW..ssshhhhh..don't tell anyone..I copy and Paste those links..smiley - biggrin..I also have a list of Useful Links on a clip board that I keep near PC..I'm one of those anoyingly organised people..smiley - laugh..

I figured you did it like that Emmily, but I was always too lazy to set it up! As I said, ACEing has progressed a lot, but then so has Guruing (that's where I jumped ship to!)

x3ja, it's very easy to start copying stuff from other sites, but you usually end up with an Entry that's not really all that good if you do that, so it works out as counterproductive... sometimes you can tell if something was written for h2g2 or not, there's a kind of style to the site which you may have noticed smiley - smiley

Best to write your own stuff - use information from other sites of course, you have to get your facts from somewhere, but - well, surely you remember writing history essays?

X3JA

urgh! History essays.

History was my number one least favourite subject at school... so I don't have happy memories of it at all. In fact, anything that involved writing essays I wasn't much good at, and didn't enjoy...

I don't think I'll be a great h2g2 writer for that very reason... I'm much better at oral communication than I am written. Maybe I should start posting oggs of pages instead of writing them :D

right, off home for a week.

Write the oggs, then do transcripts and go to the Writing Workshop to help get them cleaned up. Simple!

Oh, x3ja, check my blog and see the results of my gorgeous new digital camera smiley - smiley
