I was very excited to learn that the June "Create" topic is musically themed.

I'm going to start a separate post for my musings on music, as they could go on for some time, and I hate to clutter my PS and make any potential visitors have to do lots of scrolling (one of my personal pet peeves).

I love music. Not ALL kinds of music, but lots of kinds.

Proto-punk. Punk. Post-punk. New Wave. No Wave. Psychedelic. Paisley Underground. Reggae. Ska. Garage Rock. Indie Rock. Power Pop. Country (not that pop-country crap, but the real thing). New Romantic. Krautrock. Synth-pop.

I loved music even as a child. I took lessons on piano, violin and harpsichord. I desperately wanted to play drums, but my parents nixed that idea fairly quickly. smiley - winkeye

I loved music so much growing up that when I was 15, I enrolled in a Continuing Education course at a local college, studying radio broadcasting. As soon as I turned 16, I got my Radiotelephone Operator's license from the FCC, and by the time I graduated high school, I'd already done enough on-air time and production work that I had completed the internship I was required to complete for my Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts.

I got my BFA in Radio, Television, and Film, with a focus on radio broadcasting. After graduation, I didn't pursue a career in radio, however, as most local stations were converting from analog to digital signals and I was lacking in training on digital equipment. With not-insignificant student loans, and with additional coursework being "audit only", returning to school for said training was not an option at that time.

Although I gave up my dream of working with music, I still love it, and it is still a big part of my life. My husband is a musician (he plays drums, and is currently an active member of three bands, in addition to occasional session performances). We do go to lots of rock shows, not just ones my husband is playing in. smiley - winkeye And we still collect records and CDs, with vinyl being the preferred format.

I have too many favorite bands and albums to list them all... but I'm wondering what to do with this journal. I can post some YouTube links to various favorites?

Yes, I'd love youtube links. I really enjoy listening, and seeing, other people's favourite music.

Thanks for taking part PC, I will look forward to you posting new things to entertain me!

OK, I may not limit myself to one or two links a day, though. I'm also going to include artist name and song title just so I don't duplicate... don't want to have to go back and check!

I also appreciate that some stuff I like might not be to everyone's tastes, but then if it was, it would defeat the purpose of this project. Also, I apologize to any of my subscribers who are also among my Facebook contacts for any videos which might be cross-posted or which you may have seen there previously. smiley - winkeye

Just one for this post... I'll post others after I've had time to wind down from work and see where my internal jukebox takes me.

Single Bullet Theory- Keep It Tight. Pure power pop goodness.

I'm going to try to mix it up so not everything sounds alike, either.

For this morning, have a handful of my favorite cover versions. Spot the similarity... (and the funny thing is, I'm not really a fan of the original artist smiley - silly).

IMO he writes great songs, but is an utterly mediocre (if that) performer. Like many other singer-songwriters. Not that I don't understand why someone who writes good music might wish to (try) play one or more instruments, or sing, as well. Just that IMO some of them shouldn't.

Thanks for explaining the auto-complete... otherwise I'd have wondered why such an uncharacteristically strong reaction. smiley - winkeye

For which, my revenge would be to link to this song:

Which is guaranteed to annoy.

(And now I am inspired to include, toward the end of this month, a post filled with songs I loathe, just to make sure I'm not just annoying my subscribers smiley - silly)

When I was in school, I tended bar for a living, and one of the customers used to sing that song over and over and over... and finally one day I snapped and had him bounced for a week.

One very broad category of music we can add to my Loathe It list is anything where a female singer- regardless of talent- ululates a lot. The higher octave it's done in, the more I hate it.

So, how about some more covers? Hank Williams this time.

I actually own this album, "Thai Beat A Go-Go", with the following cover of Your Cheatin' Heart.

And here's Mike Ness (hint: I'm a big fan) doing You Win Again.

Cowboy Junkies- I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J02ANHNgsyk

And, on the flip side, here's a country singer covering a rock ballad. And looking right sexy while doing it.
