I'll see your Whitney and raise an America with a two note song.

AAAAAGH!!
Witty!!
I hate America (the band- I don't want HSA to come and deport me ), and I hate that song especially.
But the song I hate most, more than any other, is "American Pie".

"IMO he writes great songs, but is an utterly mediocre (if that) performer. Like many other singer-songwriters. Not that I don't understand why someone who writes good music might wish to (try) play one or more instruments, or sing, as well. Just that IMO some of them shouldn't. "
Y'know, I love Bob Dylan, and cover versions of his stuff just don't do it for me. I've long suspected that my Dylan-love is related to two things. First, I never was musically inclined, so I have a hard time discerning when music is "objectively" good (keys, notes, etc. doesn't mean a lot to me. I avoid watching those reality-singing-competition shows not just because of their banality, but because I often like a singer's voice before some sarcastic judge mocks the poor thing.). So I think I like him because of the emotion that comes through in his voice (which I do like) and the poetic greatness of his songs. Second, because he's such an interesting human being. Maybe that's the historian in me coming out.
This is really energizing me to write some more for the Guide, actually. PC.

WHOA. A Jordan sighting!!
I like the poetic greatness of the songs, too, which is probably why so many of my favorite covers are of his stuff.
I won't argue with anyone who disagrees with any of my picks or comments. I won't promise not to post more of the same out of sheer contrariness, though.

Oh, please continue. I just thought I'd poke my head in. Don't let our obviously opposing musical tastes (see also: I updated the Guide entry on "American Pie") put you off

You have many other endearing qualities.
If we all liked the same music, how the hell would I ever discover new stuff?

Slept poorly last night for some reason, then had a hectic morning getting ready for work, so no YouTube links yet today.
However, although it would be convenient (because I wouldn't want to post YouTube links for them anyway), I've decided not to rattle off lists of songs I dislike. Partly because I'll just wind up with at least one really awful earworm, but mainly because that's not as much fun as focusing on stuff I *do* like. Which is more in the spirit of the Create project, anyway.
Must do some work now- I'm at my day job, and it's month end so I want to get as much stuff done and included in my accrual reports tomorrow night as possible- but I'll pop back later with more (hopefully cool) links.

Slightly tangential post, but an appropriate rant for a journal about my favorite music. Was just trawling eBay looking for some birthday gifts for my OH and stumbled across a "huge lot of punk albums". I'd like to report it to eBay for blatant false advertising. No, little man, Blink 182, My Chemical Romance and Green Day are NOT PUNK.
OK, now that I have that out of the way...
Today's have an appropriate theme.

Malabarista - now with added pony Posted Jun 8, 2012
I haven't actually listened to any yet. But I'm busy sewing several yards of trim onto a dress by hand, so now's my chance

It's meant to be medieval garb, but I accidentally made it in Ironman colours, so if I can get a mask, that'll be an interesting cosplay combo for the gaming convention next weekend

And... some favorite mellowing-out tunes
Brian Eno
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMyvLUqm3rM
Charlie Haden & Pat Matheny (USAian Jazz musicians)

Not a huge fan of the non avant-garde jazz myself, but my BIL (sister's OH) has played with Dan McMillion, Chuck Owen and Maynard Ferguson, et al. Maybe I'll see if he has any YouTube vids, I know my OH's bands deliberately do not...

And this one by the Magnetic Fields is probably one of my favorite love songs.

It's a great song- Magnetic Fields' songs don't all sound at all alike, but I love that one. A few years ago we saw Alex Chilton play at the Old Town School of Folk Music, and a local singer named Kelly Hogan did a rather nice cover of it, but I just love the original tune.
