No - the stems won't be as dilly as the leaves - but for the pilaf, you don't want it too dilly. And at the end of the day...you'll still have a nice pilaf.

Oddly enough...I used dill doday, to make Mucver (two dots above the u, and the c is pronouced as a j) - Turkish courgette/zucchini fritters.

Grate some courgettes and squeeze out as much moisture as you can. Mix with:
Some flour.
Chopped dill, mint, parsley, pepper.
Crumbled feta.
Beaten eggs.

Fry in spoonfuls,

Serve with a spicy tomato sauce.

Ooh, might be able to make this sometime, or something reasonably like it. Sounds delicious. I'll be getting more zucchini & eggplant at the farmer's market next Sunday.

I need to start making something for dinner this evening- K suggests I make some veggie burgers. I'm thinking corn on the cob and a nice salad, too.

My parents went out to the (quite horrible, in my opinion) Schnitzel place, but my sister and I stayed home. We had hazelnut pancakes with apples stewed in apple juice and cinnamon, slightly thickened. smiley - drool

K had pancakes at brunch today. hazelnut pancakes sound nice, and I absolutely LOVE stewed apples. smiley - drool

I was never a big fan of schnitzel. When we went to the German restaurants in the neighborhood, I used to get pickled herring and beets, or lox with caviar, sliced onion and cream cheese on hard tack bread. Yum.

There's not much there for me nowadays, except for salad. smiley - laugh Though the Brauhaus has a lovely dill vinaigrette.

This place has a "vegetarian" plate that consists of everything frozen and breaded they could find with no meat in it, deep fried. They even deep fry the parsley! smiley - dohsmiley - yuk

I think Ismarah is allergic. I've been allergic to nuts for as long as I can remember, until recently I accidentally ingested some almond milk and so have been trying little bits of nutty things- and so far have done OK. The next big trial is going to be some actual pesto; pine nuts and almonds have always had the worst effects so hopefully if I can handle almond now, I can handle a pine nut or two. smiley - winkeye

Good luck!

I have a strange problem with hazelnuts. On some days, they taste wonderful, other days, I can't taste them at all! Same goes for hazelnut-flavoured things like chocolate and ice cream. And I never know which day it's going to be, so ordering something hazelnut-flavoured at a restaurant is always a gamble smiley - laugh

PC, i think you should get a goat. Or, if space among the orange monkeys & CD collection is an issue, maybe just a few free range guinea pigs. Thus you recycle any alien veggies into methane & can have sustainable energy system in which to cook the edible bits.

Dill seems to be a divided issue, rather like the great Marmite Debate on here. My ex fiend H used to eat garlic sandwiches, but pronounced coriander as "tasting like smelly socks"; which baffles me; i love the stuff (herb, not socks), however, since she also was rabidly feminist to the point of trying to put a poster of a mans willy being placed into a mincer in our communal kitchen, we did tend to disagree on many things, coriander & socks being low on the list.

I know a lot of people who dislike cilantro (coriander leaves). My dad is one. K doesn't mind if it's cooked in something, in smallish amounts, but doesn't like it raw. Most people I know who don't like it thinks it tastes kind of soapy. That's actually my thought on raw parsley.

>rabidly feminist to the point of trying to put a poster of a mans willy being placed into a mincer

Ah, sounds not unlike that woman who used to hang around here, who hated men because she picked up all the wrong ones (mainly because she had already smiley - bleeped everyone else). Fortunately, man-bashing isn't always a necessary part of feminism, even if some women don't seem to get that.

Always nice to have a Terri sighting, smut or no smut! smiley - kiss

Guinea rabbits are also an excellent means of converting unwanted (or even wanted) vegetables into small pellets of compost, about the size and appearance of olive stones. Useful for houseplants.

I've wanted to get a wormery for making compost- I use earthworm castings (and sometimes an earthworm casting/ bat guano mix) for my houseplants. If we wind up buying a place with any sort of utility room, I will definitely get one. I've no place to put it here that could be properly climate controlled.

What actually is 'lox'?

Is 'hard tack bread' sorta pumpernickel/rye bread/black bread? (P eats lots of it & apparently there are all sorts of different types in Germany.) He also loves herrings in sour cream; which i make disgusting faces atsmiley - yuk

However; i have just converted him into becoming a crumpet fan, since nowhere stocks the damn things, have learned to make them myself!smiley - drool

No. Lox is smoked salmon. 'Lachs' = salmon in German.
