OOoo, I'd like one of those too, and a nice Easter cactus and a Spider plant... smiley - biggrin

I'd also like to buy a house of our own and well that's just not happening yet...*sigh*

I'm sure you'll do alright with the herbs eventually...I hope smiley - winkeye

I'd like a house one day, too, but it's not happening soon for me, either.

I hope you get one first, though. With a G-Force around, you can use the space, I'm sure!

Well, we've just watched "Children of Paradise", K's heading home through the blizzard (which at least means it's "warmer") and I'm heading to bed. 'Night, everyone! smiley - zzz

,smiley - zooms in and devours backlog and smiley - drool recipes.

my input is that my banana cake got devoured in about half an hour by RK, Ollie and Viking (yes, he's back, how could any man resist the combination of banana cake, pontefract cakes ...and me?)

today i am making mushroom curry, basic recipe is

onions
potatoes
mushrooms (if you forget those, just call it something else)
oil
cumin, coriander, turmeric, chili, general curry powder, go by whatever jar smells most suitable
coconut milk
tin of mushy peas

gently fry the onion in the masala (mixed curry spices) Chop up the spuds and part boil till a bit soft but not mushy, the peas get that honour.

Add the spuds to onion and spices, stir (that bit can be done nicely by inhouse guests) meanwhile chop up the mushyrooms. Chuck em in, give slave a <redwine. and instruct to keep stirring, meanwhile instruct inhouse viking to prepare smiley - stiffdrink

Snog Viking, when slave starts squeaking chuck in the coconut milk and peas. turn the heat down on all parties. turn music up. retire with smiley - thepost

Stir occasionally, any available human can do this, at a pinch even yoda has been known to help. Moon however merely tries to use it as a paddling pool.

After about 3 hours you get to taste it and decide if it needs more hot stuff. If not, let it fester (not cooking, merely contemplating its reincarnation) for another couple of hours, or even overnight if possible, then reheat and add garam masala.

Ah, zen and the art of champignons.

Hey Ed, i finally managed to make decent masala dosa, it's only taken 30 years of practice!

I like brownies. I'm not too big on sweets, but brownies I can muster any time, provided there's no nuts. I don't bake, though. Not even from a box. smiley - smiley

Repeat after me:

Banana cake

Guiness cake

Banana cake

Guiness cake

Watch my lips. Watch theirs.

Crumbs, my friends, that's all that's left.

Ask RK.

Totally box free.

Edward the Bonobo - Gone.

The Armadillo Tearooms in my native Liverpool used to make a Guinness and Chocolate cake. (It was also a popular haunt for the likes of Echo and the Bunnymen, The Teardrop Explodes, The Mighty Wah!).

I like brownies best when they contain an (ahem) 'special' ingredientsmiley - winkeye.

Mmmm, banana cake is awesome! Guiness cake sounds a bit too sweet for me. I'll have to leave the baking up to Terri, it seems.

I have had brownies with that "special" ingredient before, although not for a good many years. I ate far too many of them and wasn't feeling very well afterward. smiley - laugh

Since it's Friday afternoon, I figured I'd check in and wish you all a lovely weekend. I won't be around now until Monday at the earliest, as we're dog-sitting again this weekend and will not have computer access tomorrow or Saturday. This evening, I plan to have a nap and shake off the rest of this stomach bug and fever I've had since yesterday if K has practice... if he doesn't practice, then we'll both take it easy tonight with a DVD. We attempted to watch "Zardoz" on Wednesday, but as we didn't get the DVD into the player until nearly 10:00 PM (thanks to a few hours of smiley - devil beforehand! smiley - winkeye) we both slept through the whole thing. smiley - doh

So, everyone have as good a time as possible this weekend- be safe, and keep warm (to those of you in colder climes at the moment). See you after the weekend. smiley - smiley

I would love to join the YMCA again one day soon. I took some really great yoga classes there, and an acquaintance of mine teaches aerobics. I don't think my legs would hold up to aerobics, but I miss my yoga. Maybe this summer, after K moves his stuff in and all the money stuff is sorted, I can start another one.

Karate is great for kids, most of my friends took it when I was in grammar school. It always looked like fun, it teaches self-discipline and concentration, and burns off what appears to be a lot of energy. Good for energetic little smiley - monsters! smiley - smiley

I don't know how good my chances look for a nap this evening, perhaps not till a bit later once my roommate heads out. So aside from writing checks for some bills, I've got the evening to myself.

I haven't tried yoga in a class, just by video and I hated it...I would suppose that it is much more fun and less boring in an actual class rather than trying to copy it from tele..smiley - laugh

They do have yoga at the YMCA and pilates. All sortsa other good stuff, I can't wait..smiley - somersault

I really enjoyed the yoga classes. I've not done so well doing it on m own, with books or instructional videos. It's too hard to focus, if you know what I mean.

Hope everyone had a good weekend. We had some fierce weather Saturday- over a foot of snow and blustery, freezing winds- so we kind of bunkered down at the condo until we went stir crazy and I was dying for a smoke. We then hung out at my place (after spending an hour digging the car out) watching numerous episodes of "Space Ghost" and heating up some leftover chili I'd frozen last month. Yesterday we went grocery shopping, spent some time lavishing Herman with love and attention, went out for dinner, then went to the record store (where I became annoyed with K for already owning everything I wanted to buy. He wasn't trying to act superior, simply to point out there's no point in buying now what I'll for all intents and purposes have half ownership of come spring. Good point.). After that I crawled into bed and he read to me till I fell asleep. smiley - smiley

I'm just about to climb into a bath, and spend the remainder of the evening reading under the covers. I've also got a few job leads K sent me today to send resumes to.

Meg

hope you've recovered from the bug.
I used to do yoga but gave it up last year when my teacher started to just teach the theory and not the postures which I need to prevent seizing up. I start gym work next week with my physio but am not looking forward to raising my pulse rate. I know that it has to be done though to prevent further hip/back pain. Yoga was the right pace for mesmiley - biggrin

Hi all

I think PC has the right idea, reading in bed is one of the best ways to while away cold nights!

I used to do yoga classes and loved them. I now practise at home, I do a lot less then I did in class, but I can concentrate on the one posture all the more. It took 6 months to perfect downward facing dog, and I now really enjoy doing it!

Sometimes I go to classes just for a while, to get it right and learn some new stuff, its difficult to face sometimes though - the whole getting out thing.

Reading in bed is awesome. Being read *to* is even better!

I miss yoga, it was really relaxing and did a lot to ease day-to-day stresses and pressures. I have such a hard time doing it alone, because I let my mind wander onto things again and lose my focus. I should get back into it soon!

For now, at least I have someone to read me bedtime stories. smiley - winkeye

I used to do yoga in college, but I am not really flexible enough to do it anymore.

Feeling blue tonight. Went to a movie lovers group, but I feel like I don't really fit in there.
