Edward the Bonobo - Gone. Posted Nov 10, 2004
PS - surely 'best curry powder' is an oxymoron? There's no substitute for the fresh spices!
Tonight's planned meal in the Bonobo household is a turnip and chickpea ('garbanzo') curry with chappatis. Unfortunately, since I moved from ann Asian area, I won't have easy access to fresh methi (fenugreek) leaves, though. Plus dhaniya (coriander, 'cilantro') is about four times the price at the supermarket.

Of course the fresh herbs are better, but even living near the Asian neighborhood, fresh fenugreek, cumin, etc, is hard to come by. So, I make myself a nice curry powder once a month or so using the best dried herbs I can find. It's not bad.
The turnip and chickpea curry sounds wonderful! Dinner here tonight will most likely be some frozen fish sticks and tater tots: I'm "home alone" this evening and still pretty wiped from residual pneumonia symptoms.
The Oreo pie was lovely, JEllen, nice and creamy and delicious. Did you post a photo of your blue suede shoes on your Webshots? That's kinda cool, I'd like to see them!

More curry fans! Yay!
And now, kiddies, I have a special treat for you. I've mentioned many of you to K over the past several months (probably as often as I mention him here, tehe!), and was telling him over the weekend that one or two of you (Terri, for sure) had expressed some interest in hearing what his band sounds like. He's short on CDs (they don't sell them, but paid for all of the production and whatnot themselves) but suggested I share a link to their web site. So, here one is: http://www.thegeezers.net/geezers.htm
There are no photos of K on the site, the guy in the red suit is their trombone player. (I'll email photos to those who asked shortly after Thanksgiving, if not sooner.) But there are some downloadable tracks there for anyone who'd like a listen. Of course, if you visit, there is an "email us" link... the site is hosted by one of their guitar players (I don't know if K even reads any of them) and he knows me only by my RL name. So if you choose to leave a note, identify yourself as "a friend of Cindy's".
So, enjoy the tunes if you can download them!
Movie night was pushed forward this week, K's at practice for his other band tonight, so I've had a dinner of garlic bread and , am having more for dessert, and can be online for a good four hours more if anyone's around and wants to chat or gossip or anything. Barring that, I'll read more of "Love in the Time of Cholera", it's good so far.
I've also been reading a book titled "Same-Sex Marriages in Premodern Europe" a co-worker lent me. It's very interesting, I highly recommend it for anyone interested in the topic. It's interesting to watch the regression of humanity caused by organized religion, notably the Roman Catholic church (from which I am a wonderful recovery, thanks!).
I really need some good tips, or a link to some info, on raising house plants. I'm down to the dracaena, the jade plant, three bamboo plants (one in soil, two in water- I read that they grow in soil but not water), the one with the "a" name I can't ever remember which grows pretty red flowers, a basil plant, and a small pepper plant which looks kind of wilty right now. I think I over-water them or something. The basil had gnats in it last week, and the dracaena appears to have some mold or mildew growing on top of the soil. Help!!
(If I disappear briefly for a time this evening, I've run down to the corner for smokes. Which I need to give up, but haven't yet. I'll say goodnight before I split for the evening.)
I was a naughty girl and compiled my Xmas wish list. (Although with my impending unemployment I can't possibly hook up all of my h2 friends, so the only likely candidate is K or his cat, the only ones I can do anything for this year other than offer my love and friendship all year round.) I'm asking for "Down By Law" or "Psycho-A-Go Go".
Parcels with Cds and such are forthcoming, hopefully this coming Monday (when I am taking another personal day off work), to JEllen (Beatles, Pirates and U2) and Hellbound (Peter Gabriel). I have a parcel for Superdogmonkey that's been gathering dust, and need to add to it. And Kaz, if that bracelet I saw ever comes back into stock at the shop, it'll be on its way ASAP. Terri, I'm still puuting together YOUR goodie bag. Vix, Edward, y'all need copies of CDS or anything?
Wooo! This is becoming a mammoth posting (I'm good like that!). I'd best put the Epistle to the Hootooers to an end and get on with my laundry and such. Drop a post or an IM, anyone!

Oops, I lied, it seems the CD and the two 7" records are available to order via the web site. Hey, go ahead, if you like. Or just go for the free burns, why not?
I'm listening to some cool CDs tonight myself. K's offering for this week is a collection of eight CDs by local bands whose members include his friends (some of which he's played on). What fun! (I don't know why I keep copying his stuff, if I play my cards right, the originals will all be moving into my place in say, six months or so?)
I'm going to see the other band play this Sunday. Oh, and we might be catching D.O.A., along with two local bands K knows members of (one of who he's played with) this Friday night at the Bottom Lounge. Could be lots of fun!
Speaking of cool bands playing locally... would you believe that the Misfits and Agent Orange, two of my all-time faves, played at the effing House of Blues this past Monday? What's this word coming to? The House of Blues? What a dump!

Will go check it out soon - the muzik that is, altho my 'puter was havin issues with nick.com for G-force so I don't hold out much hope - altho, thinkin out loud..or rather typing out loud, it's prolly more cos of the amount of flashy things my PC gets epilectic..
Raising house plants, umm haven't looked for a site but I'm sure if you put something like that in, somet'll turn up in google.
As for me, my bamboo tree grows in pebbles and water and there is no soil in there whatsoever. Kind of worrying the amount of nutrition that seems to be in our tap water, the leaves are dark green and thriving.. *arrrgh* I don't like to think about that too much.....
As for pesky gnats and fruit flies those invisie no-see-ums..as they are sometimes called...all my houseplants have pebbles on the surface of the soil to keep the moisture in and sorta keep the flies out..altho it doesn't always work - then use a fine spray of insect repellent on there.
You know you have let them dry out too much, when the water sits on the top of soil or you have mini faults occuring. When you are over watering the tips of the leaves turn brown on most plants..
I generally water my plants once a week sometimes once a fortnight, depends. Just stick your finger in the soil and feel how damp it is.
The one with the pretty red flowers, if it grows from a bulb and looks like a tall triffid..its an amarilyis...and I prolly didn't spell that right either It will die off and come back later. Red flower doesn't really narrow the possibilities down too much...
Umm...yeh those are my tips...oh and when you re-pot them make sure you have gravel and pebbles at the bottom of the pot, to help drainage so the roots don't rot.

Well, hey, those tips are helpful already. Here I thought brown tips meant too dry, and watered more! And I'll remember in the future (hopefully soon) that when I'm repotting I need to put gravel in the bottom. Excellent advice, thanks!
Enjoy the tunage if and when you get a chance to check it out!

I can't help it, I'm not a botanist. I just like green things with leaves on. Especially edible ones.

How's things over in NYC this evening? Any news on the work permit?

Well, I certainly admire your temerity, and Geo's supportiveness. I know all too well about haggling with bureaucratic organizations, have you ever filed a medical insurance claim here? AGH! Or there's the one that K had recently, the city booted his car because he paid his parking tickets by check, and they only accept cash. So he stopped payment on the check, went and paid the fines and boot removal fee in cash... and the b******s cashed his bloody check the SAME DAY!! Now he's out over $500, and has to try to get it back from the city. Which, if they cooperate, can take gods know how long.
Anyway I hope you'll hear back soon, or else run riot and take a few of the bureaucratic buggers down while you're at it!

Thanks!
I've got to that stage in life, where I'm quite mellow about things now, I think I had my final tizzy when I went off the ride and into the nuthouse... not much can faze me now...
Altho I may regret saying that....
I hope K threatens them with interest and adminstrative charges when he has to write a letter How annoying!!!
I shall see if I can post a copy of the letter to you that I sent today..it's polite and long winded but honest...and of course corrected with october not september.. I was temporarily infected with their madness I think...

I would love to see that letter! If you can't post it, then by all means send it in an email.
I hope K will fight this one and not take it lying down, as he has a tendency to do. And then he gets into a funk about it... $500 is a lot of money to us, it's well over a week's pay for either of us. And then the check clearing brought his balance down so low that he had to ask his landlord not to cash the rent check yet... I wish he'd waited to ask, till after I'd offered to loan him a bit. Neither of us has a stack of bills going back ages, but we're both kind of living hand to mouth, and it ain't pretty, as I know you know all too well. We're all in pretty much the same bloody boat, aren't we? The boat's sinking fast, and we've only a Dixie cup to use as a life boat.
with the whole mess, keep me posted, and do let me see your correspondences. If nothing else, I can use the giggles.

Yep, not a big update, just the title and my current reading materials. I lead such a sheltered life!
I've been off reading stuff, too, posting to political bits and the like. I've been really depressed (but not depressed in the way most people would think of it) about the election results and my impending work-related doom. (I love referring to it as "doom", it makes it funny as hell and so much easier to cope with... have had nary a nibble at my resume, but am asking some co-workers and clients for references/ letters of recommendation this week. Pray that both K and I find something better, and soon. Him first, I can live with me being f*cked, but not him. You know what I mean?)
Key: Complain about this post
