Hi I'm Bassman, I saw your cry for help - so here goes.
Smileys:
If you cursor over the I just did, (there's another) or any other smiley, click on it and you will be taken to the home of the smileys.
In the tables there are literally hundreds (well lots) of smileys for your delectation. Try a few out, see how you get on.
If there is anything else I can help with, click on the reply button below, I'll pop round when I'm next about

Sorry - I forgot....
If you want to change your researcher number for a catchy nickname that everyone will remembe, click on the "Preferences" button on your own space. Edit out your number and insert your nickname - do a save, and Robert - as they say - is your Auntie's live in lover....
Click on "My Space" to return to your own space.
Have fun - see you around.

What you do is find the smiley you want for example
Type a <
followed with the word
blackcat
(note - no capitalization or spaces)
then a >
For some there are short cuts, like is a colon followed by a bracket.
Try some out, see how you get on. Did you get to the smileys page?

To be honest I don't think many is much of a nickname - unless of course you're a 19 stone rugby player with no front teeth....
Click on the "Who's Online" button to see some of the weird and wonderful names that people give themselves.
If you're really happy with mandy - just tell me to butt out, I'll quite understand.

Hi lost in space,
Sorry to push in like this. Are you using WebTV (e.g. NTL or Telewest) rather than a PC?

WebTV doesn't handle some kinds of javascript well. In particulat, popup windows won't work. That's why the online gadget doesn't do anything.
