Now all I need to find is someone handy to mend our boiler here at work.
I know it's probably not cold here by your standards, but when you're sitting in an old dairy building all day with no heating the extremities begin to go.

Oh don't I know it? It doesn't really have to be very cool for a deep chill to sink in, incidiously.
What kinda service and repair budget has your place got? I worked under a licensed and very experienced plumber, heating contractor and steam fitter. (My Dad) So for travel expenses, modest accomodations and meals, ... I could book off some vacation time.

Well our pump has blown itself up in a fairly spectacular fashion. Clouds of smoke and a horrendous stench.

Hmmm, so nothing that a deep and frowny scowl will cure. Little shy of a replacement is likely to help, as the stench tells me the inner wiring has fried quite thoroughly.
In the interim, have the powers that be offered any alternative heat sources? Electric space heaters or the like?

*huddles closer to her heater*
We've been given a couple of electric heaters, but they don't do much good due to the students constantly opening the front door, and an incredibly high ceiling.
However there are signs of things happening in the boiler room at pressent, and even a very faint warmth returning to the radiators, so all the clanking that's been going on for the last since yesturday is possibly yeilding results.

It'll still take quite a while to reach a tolerable ambient temp, eh? A LOT of air to heat, and the chill to now seep out of the furniture, shelves, even the books themselves. I wouldn't expect actual comfort until atlast late tomorrow.
Hey, maybe this is justification to bring in a friend to cuddle in to? A heat-generating, affectionate one.

The doesn't need an exscuse to beg to come into work with me. The few days he had here were like a luxary holiday to him.

Of course, and didn't he know it!!!
Ho hum. How long does morning sickness and back ache go on for during a prenancy?
Not enquiring for myself you understand, just the Learning Advisor who lives in the back office and covers for my lunches and the like seems to be suffering rather a lot.

Rev Nick { Only the dead are without fear } Posted Feb 14, 2006
The firm answer to both conditions is "as long as it lasts". I've known new-Mum's to range from no-morning-sickness to every-day-through-full-term. And the back thingie will be fully dependent on the physical condition of the person. F'rinstance, a bell-ringer would get on better, already having many muscles developed to help deal with oddly placed new weights. A desk-jockey will hurt much worse.
Nothin' like a definitive "don't know fer sure" answer, eh?

*ahem* I've just seen a thread about someone having done something silly. Do I hear a different variation of bells in your future, Lady?

Odo Posted Aug 1, 2006
The hootoo grape vine is in good order then.
Yes, the bells will eventually ring for us - and it'll be very odd that it won't be me doing the ringing.
No date set as yet though.

Check the h2g2 Romances page, ... someone posted about doing something very silly.
Seriously, congratulations, friend. I wish you all the best in the whole process and the life that follows. My missus and I are a month shy of 19 years, and are pretty sure it was the right thing for us.

off to look for a link.
My parents have been married for 26 years now. I've seen their ups and downs so I know it's not easy, but this feels like the right thing to be doing.
I'm also rather excited.
