Is that akin to god-like actions? Emulating the One-True-Bob, and all of that ...
How's stuff in the written and ringing world?

Odo Posted Sep 26, 2006
You shall not ignore the Bobs!!
Life is fairly enjoyable atm. It's a bit quiet here in the library this morning - although I may have to go and intervine in the rugby match that's taking place on my front lawn if the ball comes anywhere near my windows again.
As for ringing, well it's full of polotics and intruige atm. I'm not looking forward to the district AGM, it's going to go on for hours due to a Guild decision higher up the line.
Hope you've had a good summer.

Rev Nick { Only the dead are without fear } Posted Sep 26, 2006
As soon as you create an association, guild or union, politics WILL get involved, would it? Still, 'tis nice to hear life is going well. Mind, I haven't yet heard if you received a little (or humongously huge) finger-sparkler yet.
Our summer went somewhere, and I'm not sure where. A visit to my in-laws (750 miles drive, each way); pack, load and ship a previous neighbor along with her 3 little girls; visits from members of both sides of the family; two weeks of myself in Rochester, NY ... Oh, and a daughter again very much pregnant and her husband losing another job.
So yeah, just life as it goes.

I just wish I wasn't in charge with the fall out that's going to hit higher up the Guild come Feb. ON the plus side I've already announced that I'm not going to continue as Ringing Master to the District unless I have a secretary (my current one in resiging from her post at the AGM). No one wants the job, so I may be able to step down come November and dodge the flack.
Yes, I've got a nice shiny ring.
Yeuch, that's a lot of family type stuff. Hope her hubby manages to find another job.

There are times to be "involved", and times that you just have to step aside, eh? I've left a couple of committees when business started going down avenues that I simply couldn't condone.
about the ring. It's never truly needed, but it sure does visibly state the point, eh?
And to be honest, I don't believe the lad will find work. There isn't much to choose from in their region, and he has no inclination to stick with it. With 3 kids in the house, the fourth just months away, it really IS so much easier to live off of the support systems. More pocket money too, than most working folks ...

Odo Posted Sep 26, 2006
Something like that. I'll just have to wait until the AGM and see what happens.
It's a fairy unusual ring, but yes you're right it does just make the point.
Doesn't sound very hopeful then.

It's difficult to describe. It's Welsh Gold, in a band, and has graduated toned saphires set into it. Not sure that makes much sense.

Rev Nick { Only the dead are without fear } Posted Sep 26, 2006
I didn't even graduate high school, so I guess I couldn't understand the stones. It does sound quite eye-catching.
"Welsh gold", ... is that a particularly yellow'ish, white or reddish hue of gold? I know there are so many alloys that can determine the final tone of the metal.

Odo Posted Sep 26, 2006
Ah, I'd forgotten you were over seas. Welsh Gold is silver in appearance; but as it's a type of gold it doens't tarninsh and need cleaning like silver does.
I don't like gold as a colour, so was rather pleased to find that there is quite a lot of Welsh gold about atm.
The saphire setting start of as clear and then gradually pick up colour from the palest of blues to a very dark blue.
It's a very me ring - as my family have put it. Different, not very flashy and yet pretty.

I'd found a few links to jewellers that deal strictly in Welsh gold, but none actually described the character of it. And the few pics weren't much to go from. Having now been in or associated with our military for nearly 30 years, I have seen a lot of gift jewellery brought back from all over the world. There really are an amazing number of tones, hues, textures and blends of gold ... And all just have an aura that no other metal quite matches.
My own wedding band is a plain 10K one. Hard enough that scuffs and work won't do serious harm. The only harm that nearly occurred was when I suggested re-using my identical first wedding band again. My new bride was NOT impressed.

I'm not surprised - you'd already used your promise up on that one.
Fun and games here this morning. I'm in possession of a couple of important 'clues' to be claimed by two groups of students who are learning to use two way radios.
They've been split into two groups - assassins and MIV. Anyway the trial run this morning wasn't a huge success, as the first group who came asking for info couldn't remember if they were supposed to be the assassins of Mi5.

That almost sounds like some of the "real" security services here and there in the world, eh?
I really wasn't serious about the ring offer anyway, just being a smart-@rse. What I did do with it was take it to a local jeweller, had it melted and formed into a solid heart pendant. With a very stylized "M" engraved. My daughter has worn it nearly daily since her 12th birthday, and most proudly on her wedding day.

Well the second group are doing slightly better. At least they know who they are - now all they've got to do is work out which way round to turn the map.
To think this little bunch want to go into the police force within the next five years.

Would it seem inappropriate to mention that I'm pleased they are on YOUR side of the pond?
ARE you okay from the / incident? No deep scalds or anything?

Aren't you just ever so thoughtful?
How's life in your world and bell-towers? Has any date been established to go along with a sparkley finger ornament? Have you braved the shopping hordes, and whupped 'em?
