You'll only give up smoking if you *want* to give up.
Fall out of love with it, it's the only way. Shout at them, abuse them - really hate them for fouling up your lungs.
They're not your friends.
I managed to kick the filthy habit 12 years ago, I had smoked for 21 years.
I can't stand who smokes anyone near me now, it does make for a restrictive social life (eyes smart in pubs etc.) but better to have your own good health, eh?

I never realised you used to smoke Though I had noticed your not being so fond of other people who do I'd save about £30 a week were I to quit I envy those people I know who don't smoke at all during the day and only at evening in the pub; and no, they don't spend their entire life in the pub, just fri sat sun night type things... Maybe I'll decide to one day

Seraphina, I think you just did what a lot of people have been wanting to do to LW for several weeks, but didn't have the gumption to (myself included).
Smoking ... I find the prospect of being a non-smoker quite scarey, as I've been a smoker all my adult life. Plus there's this website I go to where I find myself practically chain smoking whenever I'm on it - the two activities are just bound together.
New job may mean a new start though, and the idea of a £2K pay rise is pretty appealling especially as I hardly drink, we could take the kids to Disney instead But not just yet - friends brought us half price fags from Austria yesterday mmmmm

I look at smokers now and find what they're doing quite scaryblack lungs, coughing up black phlegm, possible candidates for uterine cancer, wrinkled skin, yellow fingers, almost definates for lung cancer, how can you poison your own bodies that way? Then there's your children
Have you seen that advert where the smoke is coming out of the children's noses and mouths?
My grandson has got asthma and I'm sure it's because his dad smokes.

Hang on.
Kerr, are you really telling me you sit there with an empty glass in front of you while you have a fag? Come off it!
