We had an "ethnically correct" veggie night tonight - pinto beans and mega salad with a lemon, garlic, olive oil dressing soffed with big flat loaves of Lebanese bread.
Open windows all night at Chez Neanderthal tnight, methinks...

sounds loverly I'm not great at doing purely vegetarian cooking, though I can do a fair few variations on the vegetable risotto and vegy stir fry type dishes

Lebanese has a lot of good veggie variants... Some of the carnivorous dishes are just plain and I cannot do . If it moos, moves or has eyes, it is NOT to go on my plate.
However we will be having Tesco' best rump (organic also) with mushrooms, homemade Yorkshires and gravy for dindins tomorrow 'coz that's what my son has ordered

sounds lush tomorrow will be the second of the two sirloin steaks that were in the pack, probably do something different with it, maybe cut into strips and with noodles and veggies kinda Chinese style, or done more spicely with coconut milk with rice and other stuff depends what I get in relaly (they wer e a bit low on veg today in teh shop as their dilivery is tomorrow of vegetables)

You should try and get some pomegranate molasses, 2legs. We use that in a meat dish with a tiny bit of nutmeg and cinnamon all in a casserole with shallots or small onions. Fry the meat first to brown it then fling the lot in the casserole, season and sit back with a Great served with boiled potatoes and green beans.
That'll be next week then at Chez N. We've had our quota of red meat this week...

yeh, was thinking might do a little stew type thing with the steak, but its too good a bit of meat in some ways for that, though it'd be nice oo very tempting, I've some organic baby carrots and plenty of potatos in, plus could do dumplings and I've a lot of tiny little very strong onions need leek to go with it I'd recon not heard of that molasis

*chuckle*
does sound awful, doesn't it? Pomegranates are those peculiar fruit with tough leathery skin and gorgeous pink crystal-like gems in side. You can get the juice in tesco and Sainsbury's have the molasses in their ethnic section usualy near the Greek Cypriot stuff. It is sweet and sour - sort of citrussy but very subtle - if you don't use the whole bottle Nutmeg brings out the flavour of the meat and cinnamon takes away the taste of fat. I use a good cut for this casserole as it is not really a stew, more of a marinade and you want the steaks whole.
like dumplings too.
I have to stop food talking - I'll spend my night in the fridge
bon apetit for tomorrow, 2legs, g'night!

Nah, if it's good steak,do the Chinese-style thing...should only do stews with the lesser cuts that can take a good long cooking time. Wate of good steak to stew it otherwise.

Yeh, thats what I was thinkign... actually, could kinda combine the coconut and chinese thinggies.... coconut milk, noodles, courgette, onion, the steak curt into strips, fresh groudn ginger, bit of stock, chinese five spice (if I've still got any) maybe celery and water chestnuts too oo and mushrooms I love mushrooms actually that sounds kinda.... sod it, skip the coconut milk and I'll turn it into singapore noodles damn it... I think I'll have to do some toast now, with some of the anti pasta artichoke hearts and wild mushroom mix on

This seems to have turned into a recipe thread, with the best cooks of England posting - and I know them all, even met two of them, been wined and dined by one of them

Hi all, I'm back too. After leaving 2legs I found a Dave Express to eat at. I later found a new txt on my mobile, so the thing must have been mooing at the other patrons whilst I went to the toilets.
Thanks for checking the train times for me, legs. You were just as accurate as TheTrainline and you didn't try to sell me insurance.
