ikea is not Swedish, but Dutch.
the majority of shares is held by a Dutch foundation to protect it from take overs. Dutch laws in question are more protective.

there is in deed one owner, but protect future changes he placed part of shares in Dutch foundation.

even tho company is is not trading on the stock exchange there still shares!

hwere is the idea

a father and mother start a company. they get kids. to ensure the kids future they place 25% of the shares in a trust fund. when turn 18 yrs the trust fund share is enlarged to 40%. when the parents retire they get the other part in foundation fund, because parent want protect company.

oh and they can add "rules" to "in case of" or "what if.." senario's and the way members of board are apointed.

The Efteling, a Dutch atraction park with fairytial theme started by Dutch illustrator Anton Pieck wanted his legacy to be protected after his death so added a few rules in his will. one was that the copyright would be renewed every serval years.
