Bye Bye Belgium

Well my Belgium adventure is close to ending - just one more week and I am back to dear old Blighty to start another job.

I will miss Brussels, the friends I have made & the people generally. Certainly if I could I would come back to work here and am seriously considering moving here permanently.

It has so much going for it at the moment, comparitively cheap housing, cheap food (both in terms of shopping and dining out), relaxed licensing laws, high quality medical system, good educational system, generally friendly people, cosmopolitan atmosphere, low crime rate etc etc.

Most people seem to think Brussels & Belgium must be boring because it is so small, but that couldn't be further from the truth - I have had a brilliant time whilst I have been here, there is just so much to do. Now that is of course in part due to the fact that it is a capital city and that the EU is based here, but it is also due to (until recently) the fairly relaxed attitude towards immigrants and refugees (Belgium receives 2.7 assylum applications per 1000 members of its population, twice the level of the UK) - so there is a very mixed population but little evidence of racism etc.

I am adamant that I will be back at some point to carry on my Belgium adventure.

Trade Unions

Really must sit down and write a piece about the history of trade unions and then maybe a piece on the modernisation of same and that might lead onto international tu relations, european works councils, pan european tu bodies, international tu bodies (ILO) etc.

Blimey could be at this lark for weeks
