Sorry to here that your cat killed a Robin,
I feed the birds in my garden and have a Robin
that visits the garden. They are territorial birds
so it comes back every year.smiley - biggrin

talking of robins coming back every year....

mine is backsmiley - smiley

i must get the bird feeders filled and put back in the hedge. i have a wide variety of birdlife that visits every year and as i sit here typing, i see some wonderful colours and sights.

i also have 2 squirrels that raid the feeders and then bury the nuts in my lawn.. i know it ruins the lawn, but its a joy to watch them as they search for the buried nuts, later on. smiley - smiley

How many years has your robin been coming back for Helen?

I used to enjoy watching the birds in the garden when young, but now with having cats, don't see many. Even my next door neighbour removed her bird table. smiley - sadface

Although the garden at the end of mine has racing pigeons. I used to watch him 'train them' He'd let them out, there's quite a lot of them and he had like a large lime green sorta dustbin lid type thing, he'd wave that it the air, and they'd all fly back. smiley - laugh

The two cats I've got now are quite young, but once they've died of old age or whatever, I won't be having anymore cats, and then I'll have a bird table and bath in garden, and the pleasure of watching the birds. smiley - smiley

My mum has ring doves, amonst others visit her garden, I'm sure she'll tell you more about them, next time she's online. smiley - ok

hi emmily.

he has been coming for many years and not just in the winter. he looks at me through the window, as if to ask where his food is.

there are cats in the nearby houses and its good to watch them try and chase the birds, but these birds seem wise to the cats and always fly out of reach.

the birds also wait patiently for the squirrels to finish raiding the feeders before making any attempt to get near..
i suppose the squirrels size helps..

the hedge that i hang the feeders in, has lost all of its leaves and you can see an abundance of varieties of birds..
im sure they must pass the message on that there is free food in that garden..

Hi I have a small paved garden and have a
bird table and bird bath, I get collared doves
sparrows starlings blackbirds and a robin that
visits all year,Sometimes i get a bluetit.
The collared doves sit on the railings outside
my kitchen window waiting for me to put some
peanuts out on the bird table. I get a lot of
pleasure from watching the birds.

i have several blue tits and since buying a bird book, ive found out that i have many other types of tits.

i sit there at times with the book, scanning the pages for every bird in my hedge.

i didnt know that we had so much wildlife on the doorstep. and thats just the birds.
i live in telford, which has many green areas amongst the housing estates and im lucky to be so close to the woodland.
we have birds, bats, foxes, squirrels, hedgehogs.

I have read your entry on Robins and found it interesting.

I listend to BBC Radio Essex, They had a man from RSPB on,he was talking about feeding the birds in winter and the birds that visit our gardens.

A lady phoned in to say she had seen 5 Robins in her garden although we are told they are territorial, But the man from RSPB said it does happen sometimes.

You can Listen to BBC ESSEX where ever you live by going on there web page it is a entertaining and an enjoyable station.

hi emmily smiley - smiley

the only lively thing in my garden is the grass..
it keeps growing and its always either too wet or too inconvenient to cut it, when its dry..

we havent had the usual array of wildlife this year. i dont know why.. not even a squirrel..
maybe there is enough food out there for them all..

or the extra cats that have moved in around us, are keeping them away.smiley - blue

i really must make an effort to get out there and tidy it all up..

Maybe they're hiding in the grass smiley - smiley or will appear when the weather warms up a bit more, I guess it may still be a bit early for some of them.

I don't have to worry about cutting the grass, I have my very own grass cutter, men do have their uses sometimes smiley - evilgrin Although, given the choice, we'd happily do away with the lawn, and the lawn mower, though not my human grass cutter. smiley - laugh

hi emmily.

i wish i had a grass cutter like yours..
im afraid that im the only grass cutter here. my partner thinks that one house plant is the equivilent of a jungle.smiley - blue

i woke up to a heavy frost this morning, so its going to take ages to dry out as its north facing and doesnt see the sun till the afternoon.

had a bargain yesterday. loads of plug plants were reduced in tesco. nothing wrong with them,, not even any of them dying off..
bit silly really, it means i have to go out and plant them all..smiley - biggrin
