I havent got the job yet, btw, only just applied. Who knows, the pay - if it exists at all - is probably crap! But it would be fun to go from running Europe to being Master of Nations! Muwahahahaha! smiley - evilgrin

Hi LuckyStar

I hope you get the job and it'll make you a millionaire!

I'm fine - just resigned this morning from my hard-earned job (it took me 6-7 months to get a permanent job after we moved here) so I am a bit at a loose end at the moment. Other than that, DancingTree and I are fine. We'd started planning our wedding, which will now probably have to be postponed, but our house is mostly finished and anything that isn't finished we can live with.

I read your dispatches from Oz - they were not so much professional in their dispatchdom, as thoroughly envy-invoking and sounded loooovely. But then again, I remember you being a good writer, having subbed your Wetwipes entry...

If you got that job, would that mean staying in Lux?

Well, one of the attractive features of it is that it is a teleworking post - i.e it can be done anywhere in the world as long as I have computer access.

What made you resign? Was it awful? Job-hunting is a very energy-sapping process.

Cool - teleworking is fun, yet strangely difficult to discipline oneself for...
Other half works from home and does a marvellous job of getting up in the mornings and going to work, much better than I ever would.

I resigned from my job cause they were idiots. Well, that and I couldn't do anything to please them. Had a review which stated that I'd had some problems with 'attention to detail, probably due to my instinct to take instructions literally, and not clarifying at any point that this was what was needed', next sentence after then berated me for not being able to work independently enough and needing clarification of instructions and so on... It was ridiculous!

Was so pissed of by that review that I brought my timeline forward and quit immediately, rather than waiting until I had something else (was already looking, y'see).

Hope your job turns out better - for that matter I hope MY next job turns out better. It's v annoying to be constantly looking for work!

That's a very good poll to run, actually - Do you take instructions literally? I think most people probably do, until they discover that they are in fact, b*ll*cks!

Ah well.

ismarah, I had a job and review that was exactly like that a few years back. smiley - steam reliving the horror again! I quit shorty there after. My review included an admonishment for not having told anyone when I was leaving the office to go to the loo on one occation. smiley - grr Hope you get something better.

Good luck on your job, Luck Star!

Well, just had a reply stating that they're based in Australia and dont do payments in £ or US$.smiley - sadface

Ah well!

I am in the fortunate position of having a current job, so the search for something different can be a bit frivolous!

smiley - goodluck to all you job-seekers out there!

Hi LuckyStar

Forgive me for inquiring - but why does it matter that they pay in £ or $? Why not AU$ or EUR? Anyway, I'd have thought you'd like working for an Australian company - you never know when business trips would be required...

Yeah, I was a bit puzzled by that too. But maybe it's just their diplomatic way of saying "thanks, but no thanks!"

Business trips to Oz smiley - yikes!!

Fabulous place and all that - but 24 hrs travel plus jetlag just for a meeting? No thanks!

Ah yes the scratch the head smiely of it only existed cause I would be scratching my head over weather to be a commercial pilot or an astronaut

Well, I know a few pilots, but I don't know any astronauts, which leads me to believe that while you would be an excellent astronaut, you might be better off aiming for the commercial pilot gig, as it is easier to attain. That said, if you look at the history of space travel, quite a few (read: all) of the first astronauts were originally airforce pilots. There's a really good film about this bit in history called 'The Right Stuff' and if you haven't seen it on account of it being made in 1983, see if you can find it in the library or something and take a peek...

LuckyStar - sorry if I'm treading on any motherly toes here...
