It's an odd World Cup that England comes out of better than Scotland. Our Southern friends went over to Korea / Japan, played some good games, made it reasonably far (considering their FIFA ranking) and came back, upset admittedly, but not huffing or whinging. The fans gave a good impression of the country (for the first time that I can remember) and that's hopefully not just due to the expense and difficulty of getting to the venues discouraging the rowdier elements.

And what did Scotland do? Put on their Brazil strips and indulged their habit of negative support. What sort of emotionally-stunted country can only get its jollies by gloating at another's defeat?

And was Scotland good enough to get into the competion? Was it bobbins. Even if they had got in and them exited in the first round as per usual, the Scottish fantasy of glory in defeat would have meant that they'd still consider themselves better that their quarter-final neighbours.

Scotland may be the sick man of Europe physically, but I'm increasingly worried about its mental health too.

And the sad thing is, the good behaviour of the fans has barely been noted here in Ingerlund. Considering how good they were, they should have been applauded on the TV, to try and teach those at home.
