hello!
actually dropped a wee note on your space saying something of the same as you.
I'm working with a local mental health charity actually. I work on an as-and-when they need me basis, but I get a few shirts and it's fun. I've applied for it fulltime so have to wait and see.
I finished uni at the end of June, so I've been trying to find a job since.

*wanders if there is something eerie happening*
cool. im still at uni as ive just started.
i work with a guide unit in cambridge but i did have a guide unit back in doncaster before uni. im looking at perhaps moving to the ranger un8it here. i want to teach secondary school kids eventually so rangers would be a good age group to be a leader of so well see.
its wierd to find someone on here with similar interests!
what did you study at uni and which uni did you go to?

I did Social Psychology at the University of Ulster here in my hometown. Call me chicken for not leaving home, but my Brownies needed the leaders, and I'm involved in a local Christian charity tha I didn't want to leave either. Also, if I'd left, I'd have nevergot into the church I'm in.

i wouldnt call you chicken. i would have loved to stay near home just for my guide unit because i know they could have done with the help. i used to help with the same unit as mizzp and she was running the unit for a while on her own when i left. however i wanted to move to get the uni i wanted for the course i wanted. sometimes your future has to come first and in my case it did.

Yeah, that makes sense. Not all unis offer all coutrses, and it happens that you might have to move.
So how you finding being independent then?

its not too bad. you get used to it. it gets a bit much though when you feel ill because you miss the little things.
im glad i have friends online and down here to talk to.
living away from home you suddenly realise how much your parents do for you!!!!
do you still live at home r do you live on your own now?

Sorry, only just discovered this hiding away back in old threads.
Admittedly I stayed at home while I was at uni, and I'm still there. Not sure I could afford to up and move out right now. And I wouldn't want to end up by myself or with total strangers.
But don't worry, I do do stuff for myself. I know of peoplew whose parents baby them, to the extent that they do absolutely nothing for themselves. Not good.

yea i have a friend like that.
i enjoy having the independence but i wish my mum would do everything for me still!

It's maybe good to get the right balance.
I went to school with a girl whose parents had taken early retirement. They would pick her up from school every day and would even come down to collect her books so she didn't have to carry them around town, if she was going in for a coffee after school. It was scary the amount of stuff they did for her. When she went off to uni she rebelled and ended up leading a not-very-good lifestyle.

if my parents did that much for me it would suffocate me.
but i did like my mum doing most of my washing and my dad picking me up if i realy needed him too.

Yeah, doing some stuff is good, but doing everything is suffocating and can't be good for you.
