Hi Katianna,
My name is Lifson Kofie, and I'm not an ACE yet, but I'm practicing!
ACE stands for Assistant Community Editor. It's the ACES job to help out with any little problems you might have, and to welcome newbies like yourself to the h2g2 community.
Also look out for the Gurus. They help with the bigger problems!!!
If you want to know who's an ACE, who's a Guru and so forth, go to the "Who's online" button on the side, and most will include it as part of their name. Click on a name and it will transfer to their personal space.
Reply to this message if you want a hand with anything - and I'll see what I can do. Click on a special smiley below and it will take you to the special key page for them!
Best Wishes
Lifson

This is the guide. You can talk about whatever interests you! Best to keep it relatively politics free though, as anything too contraversial, expecially in the current climate, is likely to get heavily moderated.
Run searches on topics that interest you, and click on the "discuss this entry" bit and the author should get back to you. Otherwise you can hit "Reply" in a big conversation (like this one - but with more people!) and join in that way. I'll see if I can find the Zaphodistas page (they are campaigning for lighter, more reasonable moderating) or the latest big conversation. We had a party after A-Level Results Day this year!!!
Which Uni are you at and what are you studying. My Mum & Dad are at Brighton doing Information and Library Studies (riveting!), and some of my friends are doing Intelligent Systems (Reading), Software Engineering (Southampton), Civil Engineering (Surrey), Nursing (Surrey) and stuff like that...
Once you get used to the way the guide works, not only will you will find it a great resource tool, but a great Community to hang out in too.
42.

Hi!!
Thanks for replying.
Thanks for the tips too. I'll probably get the hang of it soon.
Well I'm at the University of Ulster in Coleraine. That's in the very north of Noirthern Ireland - I don't know how well known we are outside NI. I'm in 1st year doing Social Psychology and Sociology. I'll write stuff about it in my Journal thing. (I think yoiu can read that?!)
So how long have you been doing this? What else do you do? I'm just a mental sci-fi fan - I'm wearing Star Trek socks, T-shirt and sweat shirt at the moment, so if that's not mad I dunno what is! I've got loads of sci-fi on video (inc. Hitchhicker of course).
Well better go.

Star Trek! Neat!
My favourite series is probably Voyager, although I do have a soft spot for the original.
I also go to college (Computing, English (L&L), General Studies and Photography), and generally find ways subtle around the college system security!!! It's a good job Tech. Services here have a good sense of humour!
Gotta Go. Class in a min!

Hi!!
glad to know someone else out there appreciates Star Trek. Don't worry - you'll never catch me dressed as a Klingon - can't affored the outfit anyway.
Well who doesn't like the original in some way - even though I once saw Kirk grab an adjustable spanner to knock a guy out with. That fantastic 23rd century technology!!!!!
Your course sounds interesting. You like it ok?? I was never any good with computers at school - they just had it in for me. One theacher even blamed me for the computer crashing but it did it itself. Those computers had been there longer than me and I was there for 7 years up (until last year).
well better go.
talk to you soon.

The props in the original series were just great though weren't they! I mean the shots of the Enterprise hovering in open space are so clearly a model held up with fishing line!!!
Nothing wrong with dressing up as a Klingon! One of the techies here does that! (but not every day!) I'm going for the Original Series Engineering sweater. Cheaper than the Voyager Engineering outfit, but just as effective!!!
Computing is cool. Spent 3 hours Thursday night helping at prospective students evening in Computing. Major fun! The teacher is a great laugh, but not so much so that we don't get any work done! My programming and documentation is c**p but I've got the theory sussed! Check my new name though! When any computer goes down in any educational establishment in the world it is not officially my fault for not looking after it properly!!!
Gotta scoot! English calls!

Well what about those really really heavy polystyrene rocks you get in Star Trek?? Just so convincing wouldn't you say? And that cave set that gets dragged out for every land based Voyager, DS9 and TNG?? Really never recognised it!!!
Well ok maybe one day I'll go round campus as a Klingon, but don't hold your breath. I heard of a guy at a local school who went in on a non-uniform day in a Star Trek uniform. And another who came in last week as Bob the Builder. What are some people like?? It would be a good fundraiser though. I wanted to go out on a Saturday night in my pyjamas to raise money for something, but I've yet to do it. Maybe i will someday.
so how god are you at fixing computers??? Bound to be better that me - though thatisn't hard.
Well I'd better go - got a seminar soon.

Those rocks were classic! The whole original series sets were classic recycled loo-roll type sets and props! I love it!
I see what you mean about the caves! That's probably how they never get lost in there!!!
Fixing computers is my speciality! I'm probably going to apply to be Muse of Dodgy Wiring though! When I get my hands on a computer - i can have it working within an hour, but how long it stays working is another matter.
Gotta go move machines!

Good to know I'm not the only one that loves those rocks!!
And Kirk's easy-rip shirt? Does he ever go 2 episodes without ripping it???? How come you never see Spock or Picard with their shirt off? Not that I'm desperate to see it like, but I'm fed up with it ALWAYS being Kirk.
I saw the 35th anniversary thin a few weeks ago. They said that any time something goes wrong they should just swith the computer off and on again. Then it would have to say on the main viewer USS Enterprise was not shut down properly and have to do a virus check.
well better go get some lunch.
