This makes me think that if a person's style of being is of benefit to the society then it is cultivated; if it is not of benefit but benign, it is squashed and not encouraged. I am not talking about if someone is suffering deeply from mental illness; I am specifically talking about "non-productive" styles of being.

I can relate if you mean the seemingly unproductive moments are not neccesarily so.

I think stillness / quiet time is very important to humans.
Many are not comfy with it though.
There would be no music, art or creative writings or new questions( amoung 1000 other things) without it!

I believe it is part of the larger balance of the whole human experience. Some have more of a capacity and desire to do it, therefore it is right for them.

Finding myself in an increasingly less physical life I rely more than ever on self entertaining with my mind. Becoming more of a human being than a human doing. It is an unfortunate luxuary or happy accident to have the time to daydream so much. I'd prefer more balance, but having to work with what is, I enjoy it.
